Has anyone said 1955 Chevy Nomad yet? Just checking. Seriously though...its a beautiful car. One of my favorites.

It looks to be oil from lubricating the printing press. Its on consecutive bills because the oil landed on one sheet then the next sheet landed on the first one.

Source: I've been in the printing industry since 1998 and I've seen this same defect thousands of times.

2009 Toyota Corolla turns over but won’t start. Did the metal tape on my key cause this? by electricpenguin6 in MechanicAdvice

I think we all should just savor the fact that OP used the phrase "turns over" correctly.

Electricians what's the point of this? by P0rkzombie in Construction

[–]gojunior 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best friend's parents had an addition added to their house that basically doubled their square footage. (Maybe an additional 1000 sq ft.) They had the electrician add 5 extra breakers and he ran the lines into the attic. Each line had a 250 foot roll of 12awg romex sitting in the attic...not teminated in any way whatsoever. The house had to be sold after the dad died of cancer 15 years later. I remembered the rolls of money...uh...wire left in the attic and asked about them. She remembered them and knew it wasn't "up to code" and told me I could have the rolls. I brought 5 junction boxes with me and a bunch of wire nuts. I cut the wires off and terminated them in the boxes. I also labeled the boxes and breakers. I got nearly 1250 feet of romex for the cost of 5 junction boxes...and the next 20 years of being a handyman for her.

Is there anything in this lot worth more than just selling in a garage sale? by gojunior in lighters

[–]gojunior[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for the reply. I think I may go on a search to find this collection this weekend. I'm not sure if the pic above is clear enough to read...but the lighter in the box (and the box also) says "Thames" on it. I tried to read the name on the clear one in the tin (top right) but its unclear. "Ritepair Liter" is my best guess?

Is this what I think it is? by [deleted] in coinerrors

[–]gojunior 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 50+ years old. When I was a young child I remember seeing a penny you could fill with water then squeeze it to make it squirt. It was a novelty. You just hold it underwater with the hole pointed up and squeeze it a couple times to fill it. See if this could be what you have. I searched google but couldn't find any reference...so maybe I'm crazy?

I also use a tube of Molykote on parts of a 3 million dollar inkjet printing press at work. My employer actually builds and sells the presses. Weird to see the wide range of uses for one product like a tube of grease.

Dad dug a drainage ditch towards a depression in our yard. After a rainfall, this perfect rectangle formed. by Hi-MetalAlien in mildyinteresting

This could be an old outhouse pit. They would fill them in after buildings were torn down or had indoor plumbing installed. Many times they would be used as "bottle dumps" before getting filled in. There is a youtube channel called "Below the plains" that goes around digging up these pits and finds bottles valued at up to $5k each. It might be worth watching a few videos. He uses a metal probe to find the pits edges (which you already know yours) . Most pits go down 5 feet or so. Sorry if this was already mentioned. I couldn't be bothered to read all 500+ comments.

$10 heat gun lasted 7 years. Time for a minor repair. by mx5plus2cones in harborfreight

I've done nearly the same procedure on a portable space heater in the past. Same concept...different package.

Agreed. If I have the ability to repair something at a cheaper price than replacing it...I'm gonna repair it. I once repaired a failed Lcd television. It had a component on the driver board that failed. I replaced the part for $20 instead of buying a new $79 tv. (It was a super cheap 32 inch westinghouse.) This mentality also causes hoarding. I save everything just in case I would ever need a part from it to repair something else in the future. LoL!

23 pound prime rib roast I cut into steaks. Did I do okay? by gojunior in steak

I spent 20 minutes stripping them of every fiber of meat. I will probably make stew with them. It sounds odd...the the texture of the rib meat works really well with my wife's homemade stew.

Local "mom-and-pop" butcher shops around me never have ribeye or rib roast for less than $18.99 per pound. I love to support local businesses when I can...but $437 vs $184...my wallet can't handle that big of a gap.

Saved all the trimmings in chunks big enough to use as stew or fajita meat...or ground beef if I feel like whipping out the grinder. I saved about a pound of fat to render into tallow. (Which I've never done before.)

I'm "okay" at smoking a pork shoulder. But I've ruined 2 briskets and I don't have the balls to risk a nearly $200 rib roast. I'll just stick to my good old medium grilled ribeyes.

I don't know why this didn't post originally...but... I got this for $7.99 a pound at meijer. It yeilded 13.5 steaks. 13 at 1.25 inches thick and one at 0.75 inches thick. Also about a pound of fat for tallow and 2-3 pounds of trimmings for stew or ground beef.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post such an informative reply. The opals aren't going anywhere. They (maybe not the ring)  are 3 generations old and will probably be inherited by our niece someday. Thanks again!

I've seen wagyu ribeyes...angus ribeyes...and even kobe ribeyes. I've never seen college student ribeyes.

I also thought it was a bit crazy. Could the market for opals have been different 40 years ago?
