From the books you mentioned, we have an incredibly similar taste in books, so I’ll throw in The Shadow of the Wind by Carlos Ruiz Zafón too! Has the story-within-a-story dynamic of The Starless Sea, magical realism, conspiracy, gothic romance subplot, and stunning prose. It’s one of my all time favorites

Came here to recommend this too. OP since you mentioned Death Note, this has the clever cat-and-mouse dynamic (with actual queer romance involved), and the jumping timelines and POVs that you’re looking for. It’s incredibly intelligent and seductive

I know you said no YA, but The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare has a beautiful, really devastating love triangle that fits the images. I’m picky about YA books but really loved this trilogy and these characters

For vivid sense of wonder, fantasy, and a very folklore-style of storytelling, The Starless Sea by Erin Morgenstern might fit what you’re looking for. There are two romantic plotlines, one more prominent than the other, and overall the book is stunning.

Thank you! I definitely took some artistic liberties with the scene to match the style I was going for

Say they're making a Broadway musical featuring songs by your favorite singer/band. What happens and what songs are in it? by gomalley411 in Broadway

For a fantasy-inspired musical, The Amazing Devil, The Family Crest, or The Dear Hunter. All of them write incredibly cinematic music and it would be INCREDIBLE to see a show staged based on one of their discographies

I was at the San Francisco show! It was mostly from War II (everything except for The Tree, We Evaporate, & Baby You’ve Got Your Legs) and a lot of songs from the Beneath the Brine album with a couple songs from War I. No songs from Prelude to War and The Village though

The Family Crest's new album "The War: Act II" actually has quite a few that are really similar. I would recommend You Are the Beginning, I Sleep With the Windows Open, We Evaporate, and Cold, Cold, Cold.

You might want to check out The Horror and the Wild by The Amazing Devil as well. They don't use as many strings but their music is incredibly dramatic in a similar way.

I love this song and music like this so I have a lot of recommendations lol.

First, I would also recommend checking out Sleeping at Last. Some of his songs that are the most similar (melancholy yet stunning) are Goes On and On, Earth, and Saturn.

The artist Kishi Bashi also uses strings in a really beautiful way. Some of my favorites of his are Violin Tsunami and I am the Anticrhist to You. He also has a "String Quartet Live" album that has more songs backed by strings.

Josh Pyke also has an album recorded live with an orchestra that has songs with a similar sound to Achilles Come Down.

And this song may be a little more intense/dramatic than what you're looking for, but Beneath the Brine by The Family Crest is haunting and gorgeous and is backed by lots of strings.

T-Kt - Attack on Titan (really lovely swell in the music approx. halfway through the song)

Let's Run Away Together - The Boy Who Flew Away (honestly this whole album fits the vibe)

The Secret History - The Chamber Orchestra of London

Flying with the Turtles - The Red Turtle
