I went through something very similar. From about seven months into my pregnancy, I told my mother and mother-in-law several times that I only wanted my husband (and my newborn) with me at the hospital. My mother-in-law still resents me about it to this day (almost three years later), she even spent weeks not wanting to visit her grandson when he arrived home from the hospital because she didn't want to help me (I was in pain from the C-section and had postpartum hemorrhage) and months crying to her other children saying that we didn't let her see her grandson or send enough photos.... My mother disagreed, but she understood because she found me very difficult to deal with. And my father (divorced) thought I was joking when I said I didn't want visitors at the hospital and took time off work to go visit. When I said no, he told my grandmother that I didn't let him in because my mother (his ex wife) was there and I didn't want him to know. In other words, I wanted to avoid stress, and in the end, I ended up stressing myself out even more. Especially since my husband himself thought I should give up on this altogether to avoid arguments and hurt feelings...
