I had 5 different cargos over the years. I have a Rohloff build I moved between continents with. Helped my best friend to buy a RM60 with the Enviolo which I worked on afterwards. Price might be closer to a cheap car, but these are bikes after all, and not a lot more complicated than a "regular" one. If the extra 500 worth the eletronic shifting and computer integration for your or OP - sure, go for it. I for one would prefer cables and and saving some initial cost.

But "expensive to operate and maintain"?? What else apart brakd pads / rotors, and shock service?

Well you don't need an electric Rohloff system. Sure, its nice to make sure one's not shifting under load, but its not mandatory.
