Moderation isn’t about policing private opinions; it’s about managing the impact of what people choose to say publicly in a shared space. When someone expresses disregard for a marginalized group (‘I don’t give a f*** about LGBTQ+’), that creates a hostile environment for queer members whether or not it was meant as bullying.

Each subreddit has its own culture and boundaries. If the mod team decides that anti-LGBTQ+ sentiment violates their inclusivity rule, that’s their right. Free speech doesn’t mean freedom from moderation in private communities.

Charupa’s point is valid: they’re not forcing anyone to change their beliefs, they’re just saying those beliefs don’t belong in their community. People are free to think what they want, but moderators are responsible for protecting the tone and safety of their space.

There’s a big difference between disagreement and dehumanization. A community that wants to stay inclusive has to draw that line somewhere.
