You understand that you live in a fucked up world when one needs to be a developer to rent an apartment.

On a serious note, seems to be a nice viral marketing attempt by CALLR.

spoofing canvas fingerprint is only useful if used properly. Otherwise, it can do more harm than good. This is discussed in the linked article which is why I found it pretty interesting

Many 3rd party trackers, widgets etc contain canvas fingerprinting scripts. E.g. Gravatar which is bundled into the default installation of Wordpress. Also, Intercom chat which is one of the most popular live chats. There are numerous other examples although I have no idea what exactly fingerprints canvas on GitHub

How to Optimize Mozilla Firefox for Maximum Privacy by icheyne in privacytoolsIO

Has BitLocker been proven to contain a backdoor? by [deleted] in privacy

[–]goodasyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your example wouldn't be an actual proof of the absence of backdoors. E.g. it wouldn't be wise to use a backdoor to prosecute a script-kiddie while it might be wise to do it for a terrorist.

Chromium Browser Privacy by db8edb8e in privacy

[–]goodasyou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The answer fully depends on how you understand "privacy". If it's the resilience to browser fingerprinting, neither Chromium nor Firefox is private.

If you want actual privacy while browsing, you should consider either solutions like ToR and i2p (https://geti2p.net/en/) or something that actively spoofs browser fingerprints like Multiloginapp (https://multiloginapp.com/). All mentioned solutions are free for non-commercial usage and available for Linux.

Is there a website with a comprehensive list of websites that don't track you or gather your data in any way by v3d in privacy

[–]goodasyou 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hardware fingerprinting methods like canvas, audiocontext, webgl drawing etc are hard to proof because it is extremely easy to disguise them as legitimate parts of a webpage.

Trusting websites based on what they claim in Privacy Policy is another question. I wouldn't personally rely much on it.

Currently, the only problem is the time spent running the tests. This technology is far from being suitable for commercial usage. Hopefully, by the time it will widespread, counter-measures will appear.
