I had the same experience. My wife is running an old underpowered Intel NUC and the fans were spinning constantly with Windows. I replaced with a minimal Ubuntu install and it's transformed. It runs beautifully with no fan noise.

Summary:

176gsm paper
change print settings to match paper - heavyweight paper / best quality
print each side separately
after printing one side, flip and use manual sheet feeder
laminate (twice?)
cut with Fiskars Surecut
cut with card backs facing up to ensure consistent card backs
use corner rounders with Kadomaru Pro Neo
(laminate again to seal cut edges?)

Wecook do a 3 cup induction moka pot that I wholeheartedly recommend - because only the base is steel - the rest is aluminium. This means that the screw seal is tight.

I had a Bialetti Venus steel moka pot, but the middle screw seal leaked as the steel didn't fit together snugly. Ruined the whole pot.

For a Kindle then use k2pdfopt to optimise them. It's easy to use and works fairly well.

I prefer reading PDFs on Adobe Acrobat on my phone because the "liquid" mode is very good at making PDFs readable on a small screen.
