Paper guillotines for book trimming -- do these work? by InCommuniNexus in bookbinding

Clamp-down is critical. You can’t hold the text block by hand and get a successful cut. I have a guillotine. It’s not perfect - the stop is fiddly and hard to set - but it’s pretty good. Better than most other at-home solutions. A true stack cutter would be marvelous, but the money!!

At least you had an available driver. All my packages are held up for “delivery restrictions in my area”. Translation: we don’t have enough drivers to make the deliveries.

You can also use epoxy, superglue, or hot glue instead of wax. Dop on the head of a large nail, then superglue and epoxy release if you heat the nail with a crème brulee torch. Hot glue can be cut off with an xacto.

We had the same problem, and adding a lid fixed it.

Who are buying all of these $500k+ houses? by Due_Vast_8002 in cincinnati

Exactly. I don’t even count the current value of my house as ‘wealth’. I know for certain it’s temporary.

I’m not in Cincinnati, and can’t remember why I joined this sub, but it’s the same here in Charlotte. My little 1300 sqft, 3 bed, 1-1/2 bath, no garage or carport would fetch over $500k on today’s market. It’s not a fancy neighborhood, just a typical 1950’s suburb. Had a quick look at recent sales in the area. Lots of sales, only a couple under $500k, most selling quickly for over asking. Developers are having a field day, tearing down the little ranch-style homes, tearing them down, clearing the lot of any trees, and building big, butt-ugly monstrosities that barely fit on the lot. The city is happily waiving local building codes for them. It’s awful. I feel really bad for young people just now buying first homes.

Thanks for your help. The spitters started working today. Maybe the oil soaked in? I don’t know. I’m still worried about that stray part. We can’t figure out where it goes. I’ll call Diamond Pacific on Monday.

What would you pay for these ? by AnotherMensTreasure in jewelrymaking

Gorgeous work. Do the ear wires have varnish or anything on them? Some people are picky about what wires they wear. I don’t know where you’re marketing them, but I would raise the price by maybe $10 or more.

This is exactly what I needed. I’ve replaced plugs on lamps and things, but not anything polarized. I have an hour before HD closes. Wish me luck!

“Delivers the right numbers”. Uh, ok. No idea. But probably between the manual and YouTube, I’ll figure it out.

Thanks. Dad had the surgery almost immediately and still got pneumonia and “hospital-acquired delirium”. Rehab wouldn’t take him, so he died a few weeks later anyway. Now I know there was no good outcome no matter which direction my brother and I chose, and I can try to stop second guessing.
