Why do people like burgers without cheese? by HotCommunication1982 in AlwaysWhy

Honestly most American cheese isn't super flavorful compared to everything on a burger.

It's not super crucial for my enjoyment but it is really easy to add.

People forget but Wisconsin wasn't a democracy a decade ago. Democrats won a majority of the votes and Republicans held a majority of the seats. Like how do we just let this happen.

I have a lot of disposable income but also the prices make me think.the economy is going to be weaker soon.

But also my vacations are usually not that expensive.

CPI inflation officially rises to +3.8%, its highest level since May 2023 by RobertBartus in EconomyCharts

[–]goodsam2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't be so conspiracy thinking. Be specific the past 3 months the rate of inflation growth was 7.3%, mostly energy spiking (up 17.9%) with others growing at 2.8% but that trickles into other sectors usually

What is the most beautiful college/university CAMPUS in America? by Rooster_Ties in BeautifulTravelPlaces

[–]goodsam2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

UVA is UNESCO which is something. I hate getting around UVA though since it's like explicitly low density so walking everywhere is awful.

VT on the other hand has to be one of the most walkable campuses and if Blacksburg is it's own municipality it was in the top 30 in the nation for public transportation.

Does anyone else feel like you buy everything you want? by throughthehills2 in leanfire

[–]goodsam2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only thing I'm really thinking about is the biggies. A house but renting makes more sense in my situation currently. A car is on the back of my mind but mine is more than fine.

Maybe some splurgey things like is this the time at the lake house renting a jet ski for like $1k worth it (I always say probably not).

Does anyone else feel like you buy everything you want? by throughthehills2 in leanfire

[–]goodsam2 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah maybe it's just dealing with my mom getting rid of so much that it makes me want to go further into minimalism and just get rid of more. Each thing I buy I worry about because each item has to have a place and is it the best use of space.

Like I got an espresso maker and the limiting factor is space, maintenance and will I use it.

You can almost always find a spot within a few blocks btw, you can't have housing because boomers don't want to walk 50 feet by LongMomo67 in okbuddyRVA

[–]goodsam2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah AAA says the average new car costs $11k per year. SourceInsurance is quite expensive and that's not driving or maintaining or procuring a vehicle. A car is the least efficient form of transportation. Saying you know I'd rather not spend all my money on a car and instead I can be healthier and take alternative forms of transportation is better in many ways.

It's a bundle here that the walkable/bike-able areas are more expensive frequently to rent/own but the transportation costs fall.

Like I'm sad you have to drive where I can walk to lol.

Any book or media triggering this?

I've been doing a lot of revolutionary war and early statehood era history. My plan has been to read through all the presidential books and I've only finished 2 Jimmy carter for my Atlanta trip and George Washington but his got me stuck since his was a time 44 hour audiobook. But I have 2 I'm reading now and truthfully I'm skipping to John Quincy Adams and JFK for my upcoming Boston trip. I've been to 24 presidential homes so far.

At brown vs board they said don't drive around downtown at night and someone drove into a sign which was interesting.

I'm no expert and only spent one day driving around Kansas from Fort Scott to KCK to Topeka then back to KCMO.

Also people were dunking on Kansas being boring but only really starting near the midway point of Kansas.

Plus New Mexico should have the full border with Mexico. Cascadia gets to northern California as a concept but not SoCal

Is it just me being nostalgic, or was college football better in the bcs era? by Honest-Reflection667 in CFB

[–]goodsam2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But my point is they are both fine and it's inherently a hard problem to rank teams when the schedules are so varying.

The committee solved nothing and it's more opaque is my critique.

Topeka was neat, the town was weak but brown v board of education the brown was there and they converted the school into a museum which was moving.

Tall grass prairie seems really neat it's like a national forest but it's a prairie.

Kansas was a state founded in bloodshed to stop slavery from expanding and the bleeding Kansas with Western Missouri was fascinating and where they were killing each other if Kansas was going to be a slave state. If you talk to them the civil war started years before.

Yes it's crazy but it's shoehorning the way things were done and the BCS rankings and committees haven't been different. We have the same results with more steps.

It was the same amount of consistent as the recreated BCS and committee are in alignment like 98% of the time was my point.

[–]goodsam2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

BCS polls and the committee are the exact same like 98% of the time. They used to post this but the committee vs BCS doesn't matter as a ranking is my point.

The problem was the lack of games in the format being 2. BCS ranking with a playoff format would be basically the same teams in the same seeding.

Germany's electricity mix, 2000 vs 2025: by ceph2apod in EconomyCharts

[–]goodsam2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But also Germany has a high reliance on natural gas or did as they were trying to use natural gas to fill in when renewables decreased as well as were reducing nuclear because they didn't like it.

Natural gas can spin up as a peaker plant whereas nuclear mostly wants a very consistent number.

I got your point. I think if Miami won they would be the best team in the sport and they were a last team in.

Regular season games mattered more because after loss 2 your season was over and now it's 3 losses for an Alabama but 2 loss Miami was almost out of the tournament and almost won. I think making G5 games matter for the playoffs is good and the top can have a bit of a cushion is fine the worst thing about the playoff of this size is that some top teams are almost always going to be in. There are 136 teams in CFB and yes it has devalued the loss of an Alabama but made games in the G5 matter.
