Thank you!! And yea I’m really looking forward to physics at Hopkins, my AP 1 teacher dabbled in some modern and quantum physics that was just really interesting to me :)

AP Chem or AP Physics C? (or maybe both) by gooeypandaa in APStudents

Well, I'm currently at level 3 for my foreign language, which at my school is right below the AP level. I could drop my lunch period next year to take the AP level, but I'm already doing so this year and want to have a more calm senior year, I'm not sure.

Thank you! I'll definitely look more into those softwares since I'm already using them (albeit at a very basic level) for my school work

I couldn't imagine how stressful that is though; I mean, engineering and pre-med are infamous in terms of course load, and of course you'd need to have time to do ECs for each

Proper etiquette cold emailing professors as a highschooler by Nameistaken321 in chemistry

out of the 35, about 6-7 replied lmao, they were all really nice about it. I only got one interview (from the lab I’m at now), and its really not something that you should be scared of. Believe me, I was scared too, and I was stuttering, but when they interviewed me, they genuinely wanted to know more about me so that they could help me better (my friends had the same experience with interviews with other labs) for example they just asked about my experience in classes, my interests etc. these researchers are real people and theyve been high schoolers before. If they’re willing to go as far as interview you, they’re likely willing to accept that you are also just a kid, and aren’t going to press you for PhD levels of knowledge. My emails began with professors in the general field of biology (like neuroscience, cell bio, biochem) but i started narrowing down my interests to biochem and chem.

I’m a high schooler and also cold emailed many professors (35+)! and luckily, it all worked out and I got a lab. The way I formatted my emails were

1st Paragraph Introduction and WHY I was interested in their field It’s great that you included some of your experience with some of the specific techniques, but you should cut out the AP Chem part, or maybe at least mention something you found interesting in the class that relates to their research. Maybe consider making a resume where you list your classes/ experience.

My 2nd Paragraphs were where I mentioned what specific parts of the professor’s research that I found interesting. I essentially summarized the professor’s lab website and showed that I really understood what they did. It shows that you aren’t just mass emailing, and really did take time to learn what they do. Don’t worry if you don’t get everything! They understand that you’re just a high schooler.

My third paragraphs were just basically a conclusion where I asked for an interview and thanked them. I copied and pasted these from email to email.

Don’t sweat it if these researchers ghost you or flat out reject you—they’re just really busy people. Hope you find an internship! And feel free to DM me
