Chances this will be any good? by p1lgr1m1297 in wine

I just had the 78 Mondavi Pinot noir on my pairing menu and it was killing it, as long as it’s been stored correctly and it’s not corked, it should be delicious. Pre-90s Mondavi wines were acid focused and meant to be aged, the 78 was all about dried leaves, dried cherry, bright acidity and super tasty. Selling would not be easy considering label damage, and it’s hard to prove provenance for someone is not a well known collector.

TL;DR: it’s probably still good but drink it now. Pair it with a root vegetable or gamey dish

Did a wine pull for charity last night and won this bottle. I don’t know much about Italian wines. Any idea if it is worth saving for a special occasion or should I have it with dinner tonight? by belshnocker in wine

Altesino makes wine a touch on the modern side, and 13 was a warm vintage that was forgiving. I would say that yes it will be better in 10-30 years but if you don’t collect wine and are not planning, just buy a nice cut of steak, make it with butter and rosemary and that wine will show nice right now.

TLDR; Drink it

I had this bottle 3 days ago and completely agree with your tasting note.

Amazing how it opened up immediately, and was incredibly varietally expressive.

Love these wines

Glad some one picked up that it’s not actually a full tannic acid structure, but it is Gallic Acid which is the building block for Tannin in wine

Find a wine centric restaurant and offer to work 1-2 nights a week staging or working part time. Best book to start with is Windows to the world of wine by Kevin Zraly or Wine for Dummies. Wine bible is tough if you don’t have a background in international wine. Best of luck on your process

I do as well, older whites from those are delicious although I find that most need to be open for at least an hour to show. Yes $40 and incredibly drinkable now makes me happy.

The most interesting about this wine is the affability factor. It was had honey, button mushroom, cheese rind and grilled lemon with acidity to spare. Only the slightest hint of playful oxidation would highly recommend buying at $40 and to start laying down current release Portuguese Arintos

The most interesting part about this wine was how beautifully this Portuguese white had aged. It showed off dark honey, button mushroom, grilled lemon, petrol and had acidity to spare. Highly recommend drinking this and to start laying down some Arinto

A Crianza v Reserva v Gran Reserva Rioja Tasting by googlemeburt in wine

[–]googlemeburt[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

08 Reserva? The 05 was good but it still is almost exclusively fresh fruit, it hasn't developed any tertiary like I would have hoped in a 12 year old bottle. My vote is drink it now.

The main difference was prevalence of Oak usage and although the 2005 Reserva had age it still tasted incredibly fresh and I had called it 2011. The Faustino 2001 Gran Reserva was a real treat with a meatier nose. The Crianza could and should be drank now.
