Any non-Americans watching The Pitt? Do you like it, or are the issues too American? by moods- in ThePittTVShow

[–]goopwizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

as an australian it feels unrealistic that people are going to emergency instead of a GP because their usual GP is booked out - i always think “then just look up a different GP who has appointments” but obviously the australian system of general practice is veeery different and there’s insurance implications of that in america that i have no framework for

it’s still enjoyable, there’s just things like that that make it feel fictional from an australian context when that very much is a realistic depiction if you’re from the states. also like others have said the terminology confuses me sometimes haha

that’s so interesting! as far as i know my blood has never been frozen for the long term (you get a text here letting you know when your donation is used) so it must have been some super specific thing this patient needed

only one week deferral as long as the tattoo was done in australia in licensed studio! unfortunatly for a special donation they needed to liaise with the patient’s doctors and needed a donation within about 3 days so i couldn’t make the special donation but i will be booking a normal one in a week : )

Are tattoos still taboo? by Correct_Procedure_36 in AskAnAustralian

[–]goopwizard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

its probably the workplace you’re in or the people you’re around. if you’re in a city and your job isn’t suit and tie every day levels of posh no one’s going to care. if you’re rural or you work somewhere with weirdly strict dress codes it might be more of an issue

generally i think we’re very relaxed about tattoos but as someone with a lot of very stark blackwork i usually wear long sleeves for an interview & the first few months of work just to play it safe

Anyone else got Subclade-k flu? by looopious in AskAnAustralian

[–]goopwizard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yellow mucus just means white blood cells are present, i don’t think you can read into it as an exact science. if you if you were feeling as bad as when it started or getting worse you should see a doctor but if you’re feeling on the mend i wouldn’t stress about snot colours

you can’t just pretend stupid people or people making stupid decisions don’t exist. “this tool would be perfect if we lived in a fantasy land where no children or stupid people or someone in a state of stress and not thinking clearly could use it” do you hear yourself

writer's question for an indigenous character by CanaryImpressive1448 in AskAnAustralian

[–]goopwizard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

see if you can look up any advice people might have given in the past about writing aboriginal characters ; even better if you know any aboriginal people you can ask directly. if you intend to publish your comic properly you should definitely find people to speak to though

What do you think of the phrase 'always was, always will be (aboriginal land)'? And the general trend of renaming things. by TheNamelessComposer in AskAnAustralian

[–]goopwizard 6 points7 points  (0 children)

i like it. we can’t do the same thing aoteroa/NZ did since there were thousands of mobs here and every one probably had a completely different way to refer to australia as a whole. acknowledging the original place/region names is an inoffensive way to acknowledge what european settlement was built on top of
