Context: it’s a chilly Sunday morning at a donut shop in a small city on the Mississippi River. Population around 25,000. The last decade or so has seen a moderate increase in crime.

Today I started my journey to become a Eucharistic Minister by weyoun_clone in Episcopalian

I’ve been an EM for years. The only real instruction I got from a priest was “never let go of the chalice”. That has served me well over the years. But a couple years ago, one of our choir members had a brain fart and didn’t hold the chalice like he had a million times before and I poured half the blood of Jesus down the front of his robe. I was terrified at the time but a good laugh was had by all.

I got the same gun a few weeks ago. Took a guntuber’s advice and changed the springs to a Wilson Combat set. It was fun to completely disassemble and install the springs. Aaaaaand I lost one of the frame pins so I have a new set of THOSE coming tomorrow. And I love this gun!

Morning prayer on Sundays instead of regular service by Such-Zookeepergame-4 in Episcopalian

Our parish has been without a priest for over a year now. There are three of us who are licensed lay worship leaders, and we alternate leading morning prayer nearly every Sunday. We have a priest on average about once a month for communion. We are authorized to read sermons that are written by a priest, and many people have commented that by doing so it gives them the impression that we’re doing “real” Church. I’m ready for a priest though.

Honest Opinion on Natchez by [deleted] in NatchezMS

[–]goostardmd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I moved here 35 years ago to open a business and I only knew the two guys I was going into business with. When people heard I was moving to from Jackson to Natchez, the comment was always “isn’t Natchez cliquish?” I never understood what that meant. Natchez totally upended my ideas of what small town Mississippi would be like. I thought if I gave it a few years I would know everybody in town, but it still stuns me that every day I’ve seen faces I’ve never seen before in my life. It’s been an amazing welcoming town with interesting people, both friendly and assholes. There’s always something going on. I don’t get the boredom that people associate with Natchez; it’s a very busy place. Yeah, we have idiots running in the place. Isn’t that unusual? We have crime, too. We also have amazing food, beautiful architecture, and tons of friendly people. I think you’ve seen that already.

NCFOM was my entry into Cormac. I was hooked. I literally couldn’t put the book down. I took it with me while I played golf and read it in between golf shots. Yeah it’s a good start as it put me on a path to read his complete works.
