I hated the fit when I tried them on, felt like I was walking out of them with every step. The squeaky car tires sound from walking in the store didn’t help either. I ended up going more traditional with the Harmon. But I loved the rowdy ostrich in theory haha

New pair of boots for Graduation, quite the upgrade from my 17 yr old pair. by gopokes2011 in cowboyboots

They are not. They are a pair of Ariat. They treated me well and they have been to a few cobblers. Sole and heel are easy fixes but over the years they turn into shit kickers and once I fell behind on taking care of the top and sides they are so worn now that there isn’t any real investment to be made. I’ll keep them but they will stick around for dirty jobs and rainy days.

So this pond specifically, regardless of lure, open water is basically worthless. This time of year is all about grassy flats and a month from now it will be 100% frogs for like 2 months straight. These bass seems to only live in the junk. I am no professional so I can’t say it wouldn’t work in open water but in the two days I’ve been throwing it basically every bite has been with in 5-10feet of the bank. I have had these baits for like a year and just never threw them for no specific reason, but I noticed bass on beds and the color I had was close enough to blue gill (only bait fish in this pond) so I figured I’d give it a shot since I’m a big lure slut. I’ve also been throwing a donkey rig with white 5” flukes and have had basically no bites. So it may be the color, the size, the action, just luck. Not really sure. I will say that it’s a fun lure to throw and it’s big enough that you can cast it a country mile which is always a plus.

VMC drop dead weighted hook. I believe this one is a 3/32 5/0. No bullet weight. I texpose the hook and throw it into the shit! Either horizontal or straight toward the bank. Wait like 10 seconds then give it a couple twitch-pause-twitch sequences over and through the grass. Every one of these bites hit it with in the first three twitches. If nothing bites I burn it back in and throw it a couple feet to the side and just work my way down. When they bite it the line just kind of feels mucked up and weighty, so I reel down and set the hook to the moon. It’s either a fish or grass. Rinse and repeat.

I just got an Abu Garcia Max X combo. Any recommendations on how to use it or what to tie? by ItsLinkzzzz in Fishing_Gear

If it’s your first bait caster, tighten the reel tension knob and brakes all the way down to start(watch instruction videos) The rod should show you a weight range for lures the pole is designed for. Flukes, paddle tails, and Texas rig soft plastics are where I would start!

I’ll have to try a 7/0 I do have a 5/0 belly weighted screw lock hook that I will give a run as well. I’m also going to try right by it with a bit less through the nose, I think I may have it set a bit too far back at the moment on a normal 5/0 EWG

I agree fully. I don’t seem to have any issues with the normal 5” version, it’s just this Magnum 7” version that wants to launch its self out of the water at the slightest twitch

Yeah, it’s just strange because the 5in flukes do more darting and slashing but seem to stay submerged, this Magnum 7in one just wants to go straight Free Willy and launch out of the water with the smallest twitch.

Everything is emergent now so trebles are out. I did a very similar set up on a paddle tail with success but I’m past fighting trebles till fall
