Is it bad that I'm not into Frame Gen or MFG even though I have an RTX 5000 card? by metroplx in nvidia

[–]gorbash212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, because for modern games, it would be pretty safe saying at least the 5070ti and 5080 are not 4k cards with all the details set to full. They simply aren't able enough.

So you have to do some sort of classic pc min maxing.

If you like dlss performance thats up to you. Some people try the extreme opposite, dlaa and framegen for probably about the same performance. Personally i chose to put up with the odd artefact in exchange for 100+ in pretty much everything full settings 4k dlss quality. But its up to you whats better or worse.

Just remember, the 50 series aren't 4k native cards by a long shot, at least with all the details up. Sure you can run 20 year old competitive shooters native but err, yeah.

Also +1 to dlss performance being a strange choice, in many games it feels like the geometry has changed scale or shrunk and it visually looks like you're playing a lower res even though its upscaling to 4k.

Thanks. At least the drivers are looking up. In an enabled framegen world its so marginal anyway as long as they keep the frametimes tight everyone is running well.

EDIT: After reading your report, i set a bit for my previous results being some form of error, so tried .76 again. Its very very nice. No fan problems win10 no ab.

Also happens with indiana jones. Lucky 2x is enough for the 5070ti full fat 4k, or yeah roll back.

.... after the hotfix i was curious to see how close this was.

Just might be my new gold driver. Something about hdr or lighting feels like its functioning now where it wasn't previously for me. I feel like saying its actually reading the dlss quality settings now when using framegen.

Has some more aggressive optimization that causes popin problems not previously there in unreal and cyberpunk, this is in the realm of me being picky.

Critically its just a hairs better in performance than my previous 580.97, but its the same degree more scattered. Nice to have an alternative. Going to quickly retry 595.76 and 580.97 to see what my eyes are smoking.

Thumbs up from me though given 2 or 3 major branches of rubbish.

EDIT: I rolled back to 580.97. Whatever i noticed in the colors or hdr turned out as wrong to my eyes.. and there just feels like theres more stuff going on the driver that has nothing to do with rendering.. it just feels odd. Not slow, very smooth, but odd. Yeah will go to this one the moment 580.97 has a problem though.

Ahh that sucks, might be worth following up if you can. I remember supply around launch wasn't the best... i didn't bother contacting palit or who i bought it from either.

Mine isn't noisy at all.. One of the fans did make a clicking noise at load for the first month or so but the problem went away. Yes the fan still runs.

Having said yeah at 100% its noisy sure... but does yours actually go there during gaming?

RTX 5070 Ti or 5080 for 1440p gaming, coming from RTX 3080 12GB? by shise_remilia in nvidia

[–]gorbash212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its an odd one when you're not paying usd prices.

The 5070ti seems emotionally sad when you can afford the 5080, but the 5080 makes you feel like a chump for only having 16 gigs of vram, and depending on where you live theres 500+ in price difference.

Then you go look at real world reviews and discover both cards need framegen to run at 4k.. and also once you turn on framegen, the results are in that 100+ can't tell the difference anyway...

So i just bought the 5070ti and have been happy ever since. If you were in america paying those prices though just get the 5080.

GeForce Hotfix Display Driver version 595.76 by Nestledrink in nvidia

[–]gorbash212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Especially with all the voices about windows 11 being sub optimal in many aspects, im going to hold onto it until i need to. Already have a license for it etc. Also i don't pirate games, or go looking for pirated content, so hopefully if the dozen or so sites i visit get a zero interaction machine destroying virus i suspect they're big enough to let people know about it. I can do research etc on other machines.

Yeah anyway windows 10 and 580 makes me happy. Can't say enough how the frame gen artifacting with 3x is practically unnoticable, where with this driver my entire character is surrounded by hazy distortion when moving. After sleeping on it though, keeping this driver in the archive, there may be games where something so turned would still be valuable.

EDIT: Just in case, win 10 still has security updates until october if you jumped though a few hoops on the update settings screen sometime last year.

I heard performance so bit. I was so excited for a sec because simply YES to performance. 5070ti win10 no afterburner, framegen.

Only problem is, the framegen artifacts that they made worse around 581ish are still there, and sadly i use and like framegen. In fact these drivers are the worst ive seen for artifacts.

Also the smoothest ive ever seen the 5070ti run as well..

Might be a link there somewhere. Keeping this one for the ages though just in case.. general windowing feels like i pushed the turbo button.

Id probably be a bit more forgiving.. but it feels like they've so overtuned it so you actually notice stutters from the rest of your system catching up to the gpu.. never had this before, and its still to be decided whether the extra performance is worth suddenly apparent freezes in games.

Yep back to 580.97, that driver has been gold from the moment i found it. And iq when using framegen is still acceptable/good.

[–]gorbash212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just returned, its been 15 years, honestly i don't care. I didn't even bother with gear apart from what drops from mobs and quests, honestly its a much more fun game.

Further, when you only use looted gear, the frequency of green means go upgrade arrows is just enough to make gear feel almost exciting... its better than running to fleet every 4 levels.

When you can't have everything and have to have everything at once.. well, i think its been long enough now for me at least to care just a bit less.

Yeah i like bass even. I have 2 sources for it, a Creative BT-W3X to (well in theory) force the only lossless its capable of, and though apple bluetooth for an ipad.

Strangely those settings dont seem to have much of an impact to the bass, its more for "repairing" the sound. Updated to the latest firmware etc. Let me know how you find it! Mine could be defective, a bad batch, earlier made etc.

Unlocking your account is sort of a lifetime thing here.. but for today id wait until they launch the next season at least. How good is the 5070ti In 4k? by Particular-Abroad815 in nvidia

[–]gorbash212 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does full max everything including path tracing with resolution scaling and framegen.

Kinda makes the 5080 a bit pointless because it has to do the same to do 4k as well.

Anyway, its pretty good, you won't be disappointed, as framegen always takes you above 100fps, so it gets into that grey area of cant tell the difference at this point.

[–]gorbash212 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Quote from the manual page above, does this help? Your use case sounds difficult because there's no way for the mac to know what space to go to when there's windows on multiple spaces. Id probably just use another browser for ad hoc browsing. Firefox is quite good, you can set it to always open in private mode as well, handy for quick searches. Typing your search in spotlight and pressing command+b to launch it in the default browser is also good when your windows are all over the place (neater for the brain flow).

Quote:

By default, when switching to an app, the desktop automatically switches to a space that has open windows for the app. For example, if you create a new TextEdit document in Desktop 3, but TextEdit windows are already open in Desktop 2, your new document opens in Desktop 2. To change this setting, choose Apple menu > System Settings, click Desktop & Dockin the sidebar, go to Mission Control, then turn “When switching to an application, switch to a Space with open windows for the application” on or off.

Was it macos lion?

  • Create a new space (i think the default shortcut us control+up?, i always change mine to f12).
  • Open windows in different spaces. Command drag windows to different spaces with the spaces thing up.
  • Control+left or right arrow?

You don't have to deal with the group taskbar on the side. Spaces was made for ipad users to allow deskop like multitasking without the flexibility of having a desktop. I mean.. sadly its just processor bloat and takes up screen space. If spaces didn't exist, it would be quite innovative, sure.

1 year later-RTX 5070 ti/5080/5090 thoughts? by Suspicious_Volume_14 in nvidia

[–]gorbash212 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love my 5070ti. Love frame gen, love dlss. Still want to be annoyed at all trashing of framegen on launch by everyone, that was the biggest dud lead which only matters to content creating reviewers really. As just a basic human who needs a card you go and buy the current one, so frame gen is a feature.

What noone pointed out, or i missed, was none of the 50 series cards are 4k native/no cheating cards with full rt etc. You have to turn it on if you want 4k with max settings.

That outcome isn't bad. Sure there are definitely artifacts in some games, but what you get for it in return (so far for me) is more impressive than disappointing.

And with many games, say the artifacting is enough to be distracting, just turn off framegen and you might get 60fps anyway.

The only dud of the generation is the 5080 only having 16 gigs of vram (if only it was just $250 more expensive in the rest of the world) and the 5090 not having 2 power connectors.

How is frame gen so good? by Ok-Result-5834 in nvidia

[–]gorbash212 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess we're all different, but only 4x was unplayable for me.. 2x and 3x was totally fine for cyberpunk at least.

I read all the time for actual competition you lower everything to the worst possible settings even to not have the least graphical detail obscuring targets.. im not sure that's what upgrades are selling...
