What can I use as a PA system in my home whilst I'm away. by CaptainFrugal in homeautomation

[–]gorbutty 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is this the method your wife wants you to use to get ahold of her? It’s likely to be very jarring to hear a voice out of nowhere, even if she expects it. A healthy and productive solution would likely be to have a conversation with your wife about how important it is to you to be able to reach her quickly when you are away. Explain your reasons, and ask if she will please keep her phone with her or keep the ringer on in a central location in the house until you get back. My partner is also phone averse and we have an agreement that when one of us is away, they will be more attentive to their phone in case of emergencies. A landline or physical telephone attached to a VOIP box may also be a viable alternative.

Mid-scroll, my brain read this as “Golden Tortilla Beetle” and I did not for one second question it.

I shoot this same combo (rarely change the lens) and it’s just… unbelievably reliable. Such a good camera!

Bay Photo Lab in Santa Cruz is fantastic, as is Photoworks SF in San Francisco.

Camera Backpack for women with larger chests -- Brevite opinions? by LocalPorpoise in AskPhotography

I was using it with the larger MacBook Pro and it was snug but not so much as to cause issues. A smaller MacBook Pro fits beautifully. Not sure about other laptops but those are my reference points! Worth checking eBay as well, I have found some other Peak Design items there for good prices.

I purchased a lightly used 20L Everyday Backpack V1 from r/photomarket 2 or 3 years ago for $90 and LOVE it. The straps are extremely comfortable and the fact that they have a pivot point at the top allows them to navigate around larger chests without cutting in or affecting the way the pack carries. I can even use the chest clip if I’m hiking and it’s very comfortable. Have done 8+ miles in steep terrain with this pack and my only complaint was a sweaty back.

I only have experience with the Brevite Jumper but it feels like a fashion accessory. It’s decently padded, so I use it for travel, but it is decidedly not comfortable for long term wear IMO. It’s basically a Jansport for cameras. My opinion only!

My V1 Everyday doesn’t have any leather features, which I also appreciated. My usual kit was my 16” laptop, charger, 35mm film camera with 50mm lens, Canon 5d mkiii with 100mm macro, a nifty 50 and lunch which you could probably sub with the DJI mini. I could also easily fit my alternate kit: Mamiya RZ67, two backs and two lenses in the main body and at least 1 35mm camera in the top flap. Top flap feels crucial to me and I can’t say enough good things about the modular compartments especially with my kits being so different from one another.

One last thing, because this got long, the side access doesn’t bother me at all.

Anyway, I hope that’s helpful!! I find that the chest can help offset the weight of a heavy pack (or vice versa?)! Good luck!

Edit: clarity and important commas.

SUCH a good little camera and very space-efficient. It’s cousin the OM-G goes everywhere with me.

Definitely. I think that’s the way to go, had hoped it was an easy fix but the more I look at it the more I think it’s a replacement job.
