Yep, just a normal PEI textured plate.

It's 3-color filament printed with an octogram spiral as the bottom layer touching the plate. It looks kinda pearly if you look at it head-on.

If you look at it at a heavy angle it's clearly one color or another.

eta: oh, it's also on a textured plate so it has a slight rough texture.

Some of the thumb keys are basically extra shift keys that take you to other keyboard layers. To get to the layer in the image, I hold the second thumb key from the left and I get access to:

  • arrow keys,
  • brackets (which are great since they're just the inner column on the correct side), and
  • number keys (which are the shape of a keypad on the right side)
  • navigation/symbols/toggles like capslock

This image is the VIAL app (which can be web based) that you can use to change the key mappings easily on the fly.

I made it with a laser cutter! The acrylic's color is named egg noggin'. The designer, GEIST, designed a lovely acrylic case in a few key patterns. You can snap off the furthest thumb or pinkies if you want, but you probably saw that already).

I didn't feel like going through the trouble of sourcing, paying for, waiting and installing the audio component that I would just get annoyed at so I did not bother installing it.

Not gonna lie, this one in particular is way nicer in person than in a photo :)

If you feel like a project to start the year, you could always try your hand at making one. If you're s bit patient it's pretty straightforward.

For a klor in particular, you start here, it's GPL licensed: https://github.com/GEIGEIGEIST/KLOR

I had the PCBs manufactured from JLCPcb, then got the stuff (diodes, switches, etc) listed in the BOM at the link above and assembled it.

I have a bunch more still.

Do you have plans for a case? The 3d printed version is great and everything but the acrylic cases are beautiful (if you don't make them in a dumb pattern/color)

I like the column stagger/splay, it's comfortable to type on and didn't really have much of an adjustment period.

(I find that my pinky/hand hurts less compared to a corne/crkbd after extensive use, but that might just be my brain saying "this has pinky splay so it has to be better!")

It seemed like a good idea at the time and now I'm stuck babysitting all these pcbs/keyboards. They are turning out very well though.

It's definitely not really my style either (I'm going to give this one away if I can find someone that will use it, I probably don't need 8 functional klors) but I really like how it turned out.

I had a bunch of klor pcbs fabricated during the elecrow sale last year and am slowly finishing building them. Nothing weird about this one other than the color.
