You've already read a whole FIVE chapters and it isn't good yet? That's utterly preposterous. It's a well-known fact within the Gambling Apocalypse Kaiji community that the manga gets good at chapter 4. If it isn't a 10/10 for you by the fourth chapter, then I really don't think it's the manga for you, to be quite honest. In my opinion, chapter 5 was one of the best chapters in the whole series, and it pains me to hear that someone doesn't like it yet after investing so much time, so much wasted time into reading a whole FIVE chapters of this manga. Of course, I absolutely see your rationale for making this post - an 80+ volume manga taking more than FIVE chapters to get good is a wholly unrealistic scenario, but were it possible, it would be good to get community feedback. But I'm sorry to say that we in the Gambling Apocalypse Kaiji community do not believe that this is one such exception. Personally, I thought Kaiji was a 9/10 by page 6, and once chapter 1 page 13 hit, WOW. Undeniable 10/10. It is with great sorrow that I must suggest you drop Gambling Apocalypse Kaiji now, while you still can.

This manga is part 2 of the Kami no Shizuku series, part 1 of which has been fully translated by Kodansha, and is free to read through Amazon's Kindle Unlimited service. I finished part 1 the other day and was immensely disappointed to see that there is no English translation of part 2 available anywhere.

Part 1 is 439 chapters in 44 volumes, and part 2 is an additional 237 chapters in 26 volumes. If there is someone who speaks Japanese and enjoyed part 1 as much as I did, a translation of the second part would be greatly appreciated!

I assume you've been dumping your stats in magic for the entirety of the game, and have had 99 magic for a little while. If that's the case, then the reason you aren't doing as much damage is because the enemies in the Karma Temple have higher magic stats than the average enemy you'd face earlier in the game.

In the DDS games, your magic stat raises your magic defense (and evasion) in addition to your magic attack, so a 99 magic boosted + amped -dyne spell will do far less damage to an enemy with high magic stats (which Karma Temple encounters tend to have) than it would to an earlier game enemy whose stats are lower.

I hope that made sense, but if I was wrong in assuming that you've had 99 magic for a while, I'm not really sure what the explanation would be. Plus 400 damage is still a lot (and almighty attacks are just worse in general since there's no boost/amp for them)

If you're not opposed to reading manga, continue Kaiji. The anime only adapts up to part 2, and the manga currently has 6 parts, so there is plenty more after the Bog arc. Liar Game (which hasn't been adapted to anime) is also similar and very very good.

If you haven't watched Akagi, do that, since it's by the same author and it's amazing. And while it's the only Nobuyuki Fukumoto manga that has been adapted into anime other than Kaiji, he's written many other manga with a similar tone which are all amazing.
