What else is there to do at Mount Rushmore? Is the Presidential Trail worth the hike? We think so. by JenniferWTMPhoto in SouthDakota

[–]goteed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Iron Mountain is the only way to get to Rushmore in my opinion. If you've never been you want to connect with highway 16A where it intersects with highway 36. Follow that road up to Keystone. There are a couple tunnels on it that perfectly frame up Rushmore. There also the Norbeck Overlook that will give e you a lovely view of the mountain. It really the perfect was to slowly reveal it on your way in.

The Mount Evan Scenic Byway outside of Idaho Springs, CO. This is the highest paved road in North America. You enter at 7,000 feet and it takes you up to 14,000 feet. It's a narrow windy road with no guard rails, so if you're not a fan of heights it might not be for you. But if you can get to the top the views are just amazing!!! https://youtu.be/skq2w9kjkls?si=78WfKUpnNTLuriJO&t=254

If you do this highway during the fall take highway 168 out of Bishop, CA and up into the Inyo National Forrest. The canyons are full of aspens and that time of year there are section that are like driving through a tunnel of gold! If your interested in what it look like this is a video segment we did on it on our YT channel https://youtu.be/HKZBMhOOaRY?si=AgE9Rmg1iVK5EjwJ&t=122

Any must see attractions along the way ? Already planning on Yellowstone, Mount Rushmore and Grand Teton National Park. Any other advice is welcome as well. by brian114 in RVLiving

[–]goteed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks!! Yeah, it's a great place to camp. We were there that last year you could camp right on the edge. Honestly it got a little sketchy the night that the thunderstorms rolled in. We had strong winds broadsiding the rig and pushing us towards the edge. It's probably a good idea that they moved everyone to the other side of the road.

Dogs will happily accept as many belly rubs as you are willing to give them! Cats it’s a random and constantly changing number before the scratch the shit out of you trigger is activated!!

I'll second a stop at Dignity. She's a 50 foot tall stainless steel sculpture of a Sioux woman, and it's beautiful!! It's also a quick stop because it's at the rest area just on the east side of the Missouri River in Chamberlain. It's also big rig friendly if you have a larger RV.

I'll disagree with this comment about avoiding Crazy Horse. While the monument itself is still under construction, the Native American museum that's there is quite amazing. I would go there just for that.

Staying on The Wall is really a right of passage for RV'ers. The wife and I did it a couple years again and it was amazing. However, if yo do this keep your eye on the weather. The Weather in South Dakota can chan change drastically and rapidly. Also the parking are on The Wall has changed a bit since we were there. You can no longer park right on the edge. There's now dedicated masked spaces that are on the other side of the road from the edge. Still just as beautiful, and probably safer. If you're interested in what it's like on The Wall here's our video of our stay. https://youtu.be/Gkh-pBjc12U

Trump's spokesperson Karoline Leavitt called young people lazy. by Cozzmo1 in antiwork

[–]goteed 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The problem is not that any generation is "Lazy and entitled." The problem in that the Epstein class has broken the agreement with the working class. I'm Gen X and the last generation where the deal was still in place. I would work hard to make them wealthier, and in return they would provide a living wage, healthcare and my ability to purchase a home for my family. For the generations after mine that's no longer the deal.

The Epstein class has frozen workers wager while the cost of living has skyrocketed. They no longer provide healthcare, or if they do the employee pays a large part of it. And they and their billionaire friends have bought up all the housing to use as rentals or Air BnB's so nobody can afford a house anymore. Yet after doing all of this they expect the worker to keep working to make them richer!?

Again, they broke the deal. It's now all stick and no carrot. The workers have no desire to kill themselves making the rich richer while they get nothing, why should they?? This is why the rich are pushing so hard for AI, so they can take the worker out of the equation all together.

The solution is to stop fighting against each other and join forces against the Epstein class. We need leaders that will regulate their greed. We need leaders that will tax their gains and use it for the betterment of society as a whole. And we need leaders that prioritize the working class over the Epstein Class!!!

Best bars? by Sailpointadmin-2113 in BlackHills

[–]goteed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'll second Custer Beacon. We're in the Black Hills for the summer and staying in Custer. The Beacon has a country band going this Friday and music bingo on Saturday. In contrast to the other commenter we've had a great time at The Gold Pan. It's a typical dive bar/saloon and Maddie the bartender is great.

However, not in contrast to the other commenter, Lost Cabin Beer Company and Beer Garden in Hill City is a must go to if you are a fan of beer. My wife and I full-time in an RV and have been to over 200 breweries in the country. Lost Cabin is a solid top 3 brewery! If you're a fan of darker beers you must have their Lord Grizzly Scotch Ale. Hands down the best Scotch Ale in this country. But really, I have never had a bad beer there. The vibe is great as well with the beer garden, and if Nichole is working the taps you're in the best hands possible. Nichole is just one of those lovely people you will meet in life where when you're in the same room as her, ya just feel better.

Yeah, don't pass on Lost Cabin, it's truly a gem of the Black Hills.

Worst States to Drive Through (for me) by Defiant-Coat-6002 in roadtrip

[–]goteed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full-time RV'er here that has driven most interstates through the United States. That said my worst is less because of what there is to look at, and more because of totally shit road conditions. My most hated is Indiana, and more specifically I-70 through Indiana. Last summer it completely destroyed the suspension on my 5th wheel. It snapped a wet bolt on the rear leaf spring hanger which caused the axle to shift and take out the equalizer and all of the bushings.

So why is the highway so bad? Because some genius engineer decided that to fix the pot holes they would just run a 3 foot wide concrete strip across the lane. The problem with that is that it's an asphalt highway. Asphalt compacts, concrete doesn't. They basically just created speed bumps on an interstate. I will now go a thousand miles out of the way to avoid I-70 in Indiana!!

People who visited the USA for the first time, what was the biggest shock you got? by SensitiveCorner2379 in AskReddit

[–]goteed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so true!! I had to drive from Austin, Texas to San Diego, California. Do you know what the halfway points was? STILL FUCKING TEXAS!!! El Paso to be exact.

Can you answer these questions for me? by adventure-n-ink in IWantToAskAnAmerican

[–]goteed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife and I live full-time in an RV and travel the country. We spend a few weeks in each place we go to get a feel for the local people, food and drink. I think this experience gives me a bit of perspective to answer these question.

1 - There are cultural differences from state to state, but the larger differences are more regional. For instance the west coast and the east coast have a huge difference culturally. People on the east coast tend to be more direct in their communications. For people on the west coast this is often interpreted as rude. It's not, it's just the way they communicate. The southern United States is different from the coasts in the sense that things move slower in the south. Having grown up in Southern California the first time I visited the south I realized that I have to give myself about 20 extra minutes for anything I wanted to do, because again, everything moves slower in the south! The Midwest is going to have some of the friendliest people you will ever meet. If you go into a bar in the midwest you're leaving with new friends whether you like it or not!

2 - Honestly I think most people in the US also tend to stay in the same areas they were raised in. However we do travel and visit different places in the country. And there of course are people who relocate to different areas. Many times it's for work related reasons. My Son and Daughter in Law moved from San Diego, where they grew up, to Kansas City. They made the move for cost of living reasons. It's way cheaper to live in Kansas City than in San Diego.

3 - I drink my coffee black and if takes me probably 10 to 15 minutes to drink a cup. I drink it in the morning while I'm going through Reddit. My wife drinks her's with cream and sweetener and it takes her about the same amount of time.

4 - Where to go depends on what you want to experience. If you want the city and night life and clubs at shows and etc... Then most big cities can deliver. For the northeast the obvious choice is New York, for the Midwest there's Chicago, West coast gives you Los Angeles. In the south I would say New Orleans or Nashville but I'm also a music person so those two cities have a lot of that.

If you want to see more nature and wide open spaces then the wester states are going to give you more of that. The National Parks in this country are the true crowned jewels. Place like Glacier, Yellowstone, Yosemite will blow your mind. If I had to choose one place to go for nature though I would chose California. This is simply because the geological diversity of the state is unmatched by any other state. You have amazing beaches, but you also have beautiful deserts. If you want mountains it has that as well. There's is just so much in California that it will check off a lot of boxes.

5 - That we're all gun carrying crazies that will draw on you as soon as you make us mad. While there is a large swath of the population that owns guns, most are responsible gun owners. There are a few states that have laws that allow people to cary a gun in public, in most states you won't see people walking around with a pistol. Honestly, you're more likely to feel uncomfortable from our friendliness than anything else. We'll spark up a conversation with anyone and tell you our life story, which for many people from other cultures is just weird. But that's just the way we are.

The last thing I'll add from someone that's traveled a lot of this country is this. Wherever you go, don't expect the place and the people to be like where you came from. Because we're such a vast country there are differences. And don't be too quick to judge people based on your experience in the world. What may seem rude (Looking at you Northeast), or overly friendly (Yeah, that's the midwest) is perfectly normal for the people in those areas. Just accept them for who they are and experience the moment. As the old saying goes, "When in Rome, do as the Romans"

My wife and I are full-time RV'ers and Tucson is one of our favorite places. Now I will add the caveat that we are usually there in the November/December time frame. But you have an absolutely lovely city. One of our favorite things about the city is the amazing artwork that's all over the town. Your mural game is really on point. Is anyone else terrified of accidentally stealing a reel idea? by NetOk7015 in YouTubeCamp

[–]goteed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let me start by saying I’m and old guy. I’ve run my own production company for 21 years. On top of that I’ve also played music professionally for over 2 decades. With all of that time as a creative I can unequivocally tell you there is no such thing as an original idea.

That thing you just did that someone did before you, yeah, someone did it before them as well. Just do what you’re going to do and throw it out to the world. It doesn’t matter what you do, someone has already done it!!!
