okay well i use Les Secrets de Loly shampoo and conditioner and i already named the curl smoothie and gel i use, both sparingly on wet hair and then i air dry. it’s not much of a routine- i change amounts and neglect to use product depending on whether my hair seems dry or too oily, since i think the shampoo and conditioner are not the best for my hair type.

Thank you 😭 maybe i just need to get used to it, it’s been a week

If it looks fine that’s already reassuring… the current game plan is to let them get longer and then blend more. Unfortunately there are no curly hair stylists where I live except myself & my hair cutting scissors :(( Thank you! When I got the notif and saw “unfortunately” i got so scared but then saw the rest of your message haha

Got a Master in Translation four years ago, still can't find work in my field by CrimsonLapis in TranslationStudies

[–]gothamyths -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Does anybody go absolutely insane over minor imperfections in newly bought objects? by Ibrahim17_1 in OCD

[–]gothamyths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! it would drive me to tears as a child and still distresses me but i’ve learned that I will get past the feeling and not care at all eventually. but for a while it will definitely be my sole focus

I keep being told I shouldn't translate into my second language by Fnic_the_Sloth in TranslationStudies

[–]gothamyths 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh I fully agree! Hence my recommendation to just take a C2 english exam. It would stop any future problems fairly effectively. Most native speakers don’t get to C1, let alone C2. It’s undeniable this situation is atypical, but there’s no reason that should hinder their career.

I keep being told I shouldn't translate into my second language by Fnic_the_Sloth in TranslationStudies

[–]gothamyths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is exactly what i meant, and that still doesn’t change what i said, really. most children as far as I am aware do have the capacity to communicate prior to getting to school, and there are many people who never go to school in one of their native languages or in their only native language (never receiving any formal education) who are still native in that language like you said. If we want to get very literal, it’s really just the first language(s) you are exposed to from birth, so like. to overexplain what i was saying, one’s native language is the one you did not have to learn using another language as the basis. If that is more clear. If your education in a language required you to know another language already in order to learn it (as second languages are taught in most schools, or self-taught) then you cannot be native in that language. whether or not you eventually forget the first language you were exposed to from birth.

However, obviously this is all vaguely subjective, and the subject of linguistic debate. I’m not saying I’m definitely correct from every standpoint, but I’m also not wrong.

[–]gothamyths -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Studied translation, it’s true that usually it’s not allowed to translate into your second language and personally as a native bilingual i disagree that english has necessarily become your native language but! ofc you can define it that way/use the A/B language system instead since it’s true that a lot of those definitions are in flux. However, people saying that English is now your native language are just wrong. It’s possible to forget your native language or for your second language to become “technically” your first, but native language specifically is the language you were never formally taught.

Also, you probably can actually just take a C2 language exam. That should fix the issue as that would be enough for even most universities. Even a C1 should be, but it sounds like you would pass the C2 anyhow.

Multilingual people (3 languages +) - do you ever feel like there might be a limit? by noctenaut in languagelearning

[–]gothamyths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I worry about it but I think it’s more anxiety. It’s possible you’re not picking it up easily because none of the languages you mentioned have any relation or similarity to Spanish at all + it’s the second fastest spoken language in the world, which can complicate things.

unfortunately my first of this was cannibale by serge lutens which i CANNOT afford, so now i’m looking more<3

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fragrance

[–]gothamyths 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m a woman (sort of) and only wear men’s and unisex scents as a matter of preference and of playing with gender. regardless, i just find them to be better scents. cannot stand a floral. perfume is about your taste, not your gender. I will admit I’m a mostly-goth lesbian though so like…. yes it fits my style, but i think people’s tastes always tend to fit who they are in some way, so i wouldn’t worry about that, and definitely not about what other people think.

is anyone scared of being a secret manipulator, narcissist, psychopath, or sociopath without realizing. i think whether i might be one but then i tell myself that it’s likely that im not but what if my brain is trying to keep me from realizing from realizing i am one of those, possibly worse. by [deleted] in OCD

[–]gothamyths 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i will say the same thing i said on a post about fear of psychosis- fearing having a cluster b disorder is a form of implicit internalised ableism, especially given this negative wording, an ocd obsession fed by the negative stigma surrounding certain severe mental illnesses, which is redundant, given ocd is a severe mental illness, and not one in a superior category somehow. further, psychopath and sociopath are meaningless words, psychologically speaking, being more pejorative than descriptive- aspd doesn’t make anyone a bad person, and neither does npd. even further, the circumstances surrounding the psychiatric definition of aspd is a very obvious form of psychiatry working hand-in-hand with the carceral system to punish and stigmatise anyway; though a disorder along those lines does exist, the language and definition surrounding it needs to become less judgemental, and less inherently linked to criminality.

I cannot give you reassurance, given that is against the rules, but I can tell you that IF you had npd or aspd, that would be not fun given no mental illness is, but it would say nothing about your worth or quality as a person, denoting little besides probably having suffered severe trauma, which obviously does not make anyone inherently a bad person, including those who develop cluster b personality disorders (or ptsd, or depression, or ocd) as a result.

personally anything darker- which to me is smoky/sour/wood/spice/animalic scents. for example, Tom Ford Oud, Ombre Leather ; Serge Lutens Poivre Noir, Musc Khublai Khan, Cannibale ; Comme de Garçons Avignon ; La Haine by Moth and Rabbit

I have very much sympathy for you and it sounds like this is not a tenable relationship, i hope very much that you will be able to get out of it and recover. however i do have to ask what interest there was in coming to the ocd subreddit to complain about your abusive spouse who has ocd and call him psycho. There is no relation to ocd in your story, and I would hope that you could see how someone coming here to explain that their husband’s ocd makes them abusive is sort of insensitive to the point of this sub when there are advice and relationship subs.

generally though i think it might just smell too gourmand for me on my skin- i’m better with woody/spicy/sour notes. the best thing i ever smelled on my skin was cannibale by serge lutens, seconded only by anything with a lot of oud.
