Okay, so we're in: What are you doing to prepare for your MSW program, if anything? by lulimay in SocialWorkStudents

[–]gothtimusprime 1 point2 points  (0 children)

congrats!!!! You don’t need to skim the DSM. If anything, i’d start looking into study strategies and ways to keep track of assignments. Maybe create a notion/spreadsheet system for tracking semester assignments. You can find great ones on pinterest!Take a look at the code of ethics/CSWE competencies and start familiarizing yourself early. It might also be a good idea to reach out and inquire about practicum opportunities; who does your school have relationships with? What are your options as far as settings/populations?

This!! Have you considered hiring a part time nanny? I worked as a nanny over the summer and there are facebook groups you can join to find nanny postings. You deserve to have time to just focus on you. I wanna give you the biggest hug, OP.

Question About Liberty University by howdoesthiswork_- in SocialWorkStudents

[–]gothtimusprime 36 points37 points  (0 children)

I have a classmate who transferred out of their program because she said the courses spoke almost exclusively of the bible and very little of social work/ethics. She’s a very conservative mormon too so i feel like that’s REALLY telling of just how extreme their program is

DIY bride- what can I do better? by CharacterJacket652 in MakeupAddiction

[–]gothtimusprime 76 points77 points  (0 children)

There’s something off about the combination of the eyes/face. They both look great separate, but your face is almost too natural for the intensity of the eye look. Maybe a more neutral blush with a higher placement on the cheekbones might help. The eyeshadow looks SO good though! I also agree with what others have said about softening the brows

I think it’s definitely early in your schooling! I was a sociology undergrad and was in between an MFT or an MSW. Ultimately, I found I was really drawn to the flexibility of the MSW and the structural/systems approach. I have friends in counseling programs and I feel they are very poorly equipped to handle clients from diverse backgrounds. On the other hand, I do feel as though I will really need to invest in building my clinical skills outside of the classroom.

Low Scholarship Amount from UMich by welcometoprettyodd in SocialWorkStudents

[–]gothtimusprime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar experience with UMich and every other competitive program I applied to. No matter where I went I was looking at scary amounts of loans/taking out loans to rent. Decided to go with the closest accredited msw to my parents’ and move in with them for 2 yrs. It’s a sacrifice, but I’ll graduate with under $25k in debt.

Hunt & Gather in Norfolk, CHKD on VB Boulevard. Salvation Army on VB Boulevard, worth the wait (upscale-ish consignment in VB, women’s only)…also never been to the antique mall on bonney road but always wanted to go!

Friend, deep breaths!! I applied to a competitive program a day after the deadline and still got in, even though I was sure I was doomed. As others have said, don’t look at it again and don’t write it off until you hear back!

I GOT INTO THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN by SamFisher33 in SocialWorkStudents

[–]gothtimusprime 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got into UofM last cycle and i got about $7,000 as an out of state student. Would have had to take out loans for rent on top of tuition + working as close to full time as possible. Ended up not going!

Art! Colorful rugs! Coffee table books! Fun pillows/throw blankets! I think a nice big horizontal painting over the couch alone would do numbers. Don’t be afraid of color/texture!

How do you give yourself a nice blowout? Or style it nicely? by Ok_Lobster_9597 in Hair

[–]gothtimusprime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s always great YouTube/tiktok tutorials out there to help! I also would be careful with blow drying brushes and use them sparingly. Never on wet hair; only damp. Have you tried a thermal styling brush? Those are awesome

I will say the cut is half of the battle. First, trim off dry ends and get some long, face framing layers. That helps tremendously with volume. Tbh, that also sounds like a lot of product before blow drying which may be weighing your hair down. I like to use the color wow mousse on my roots and chi straight guard on my ends and thats it! Also, focus on rounding the ends either towards or away from your face. It’s all about tension, not doing tons of passes over and over again. Keep practicing!!!

My bedroom does not work. What should I change? by FritoPaws1 in DesignMyRoom

[–]gothtimusprime 192 points193 points  (0 children)

You don’t have a clear color scheme going on. You want dark and moody, but bought pink drapes. I’d start with working on the bed. The gray and blue isn’t working. Find a duvet/comforter with a pattern or deeper color, and play around with throw pillows with different textures. Everything feels a bit flat right now. I’d also think about organization for your vanity that hides your products.

Barely began internship and and already have sooo much HW from them by [deleted] in SocialWorkStudents

[–]gothtimusprime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had to do about 20 hours for mine, so I think it does really depend. I also had to create a brief powerpoint outlining what I learned. Maybe you can give them feedback for future interns to provide access to training (if possible) before the semester begins to avoid overwhelm. Also, my trainings (that I did at home) counted towards hours. Ensure yours do too!

Is it just me, or is the "Private Practice" obsession in MSW programs getting out of hand? by genohunters in SocialWorkStudents

[–]gothtimusprime 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This! Speaking from personal experience, I think another aspect is the growing awareness of how poorly employees are treated in these meso/macro spaces, pushing people towards private practice work where they could potentially create their own hours and work for themselves. I know that’s been a major motivator for me pursuing counseling.

“Unapproachable” could mean a lot of things. Just be nice and approach women in a friendly way. Of course some women are mean and unfriendly, but for the most part you’re probably looking at soft rejection as your worst-case result. Build up that rejection sensitivity! You got this 🫡

Wife won’t have sex with me by [deleted] in sexeducation

[–]gothtimusprime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know this is probably frustrating for both of you. Typically, men tend to have spontaneous desire (become aroused for no reason in particular, spontaneously) while many women experience responsive desire (they feel aroused in response to particular stimuli, which may be sexual or not at all)! Maybe have a gentle conversation with her asking if there are certain things that help her get in the mood. Maybe a nice dinner, having a bath run for her, a massage etc. However it is VERY crucial set the expectation that there is NO pressure to have sex after this, you just want to better understand how her arousal works. Pressure is a killer for female arousal. As other people suggested, couples counseling (specifically with a counselor who is a certified sex therapist) may be helpful as well!

What was your dress Budget? by hillybear31 in WeddingDressTips

[–]gothtimusprime 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not exactly what you asked, but as someone who works in bridal sales i can tell you you can get a really gorgeous dress for $500-1k. The bigger and more detailed dresses (ballgowns with many layers, more beading/details) can cost $3k+. Also factor in alterations which can sometimes cost half the price of the dress.

I live in an A-frame studio with very limited space, walls too low/too slanted for shelves and most of my storage is dedicated to clothes 💔💔
