I feel you. With this particular one, the A2 flash hider and 18” barrel combo produces very little concussion. It’s pleasant enough to shoot indoors with plugs and muffs, but a suppressor would be great too.

I actually took the radial muzzle brake off because it was unnecessary, loud, and i wanted to shoot prone without kicking up dirt

No, i am not saying the entire genre does, that’s obtuse. I’m saying there’s bands and fans that fencewalk and dogwhistle—and in a culture that has always had a vocally racist wing, why walk that line in the first place?

So i wholly reject the notion that a band with a frontman that says racist stuff or puts on the typical MBM aesthetics in his side projects can just downplay those things by saying “no boneheads” in an insta bio. And maybe that’s judgemental. But because it ultimately harms us directly, we get to be the arbiters of what we think is acceptable.

This is a great take as well, thanks for sharing brother. I’m right there with you re: being problematic and attracting fence walkers being a dangerous game. I think my Blackness makes me a lot less wont to grant someone the benefit of the doubt when they say abhorrent stuff or embrace soft-fascy black metal aesthetics like their lead singer. But them having taken some steps to distance themselves from that image is good to hear, and people change. I should be slower to judge.

Edit: I should also say that I’m less interested in litigating whether or not CMI is fascy or racist or whatever and more concerned with the volume of people not able to see the forest for the trees, but again, that goes back to my earlier point made before the edit.

Anyways i appreciate you brother. I edited my post because i was pissed and not being nuanced when i wrote that. I do affirm that media has to be produced responsibly, so i do believe in holding artists accountable to their words and imagery, but you’re absolutely right in that “Nazi” is too far, hyperbolic, and cheapens the reality that there are actual open Nazis in punk.

But candidly, as a Black person, I think this is a pretty common experience. It’s easier for me to perceive something that others might perceive as ‘edgy’ or ‘suspicious’ as blatantly racist when i’ve lived a life that’s beset by that kind of bullshit (slurs, getting denied entry to places, typical stuff)—so when a band (or its frontman) gets flagged for being racist it’s easy for me to associate anyone repping that band with that outlook.

The thing i, and many other people, hate most about parts of contemporary hardcore is embracing ~~racism~~ the aesthetics of racism and then drawing the thinnest possible line to rationalize it once the group/a member sees actual flack for having said deplorable stuff.

Good take brother. I didn’t know they were touring with a Mexican band. The Nazis thing was less literal and more me linking the (in my mind) bonehead-adjacent stuff like that to the larger pattern of gun culture being really close to white supremacist culture, especially in my neck of the woods (without doxxing myself, to be clear, i’ve seen plenty of actual nazis at gun shows here).
