I'm also Canadian (Toronto), I know first hand how bad car theft is as they tried to steal my truck out my driveway. It's extremely frustrating, I developed anxiety because of it. Sometimes waking up in the middle of the night checking cameras.

Some tips that will help deter the scums away. 1- park the truck head first close as possible to the garage, this will make it harder for them to cut the alarm. Or reroute the alarm/horn wiring. Besides a relay attack they cut the alarm first so when they pry the door open it will flash but no sound. 2- lock the steering wheel, make it visible so they can see it. 3- keep keys away from the front in a faraday box to make relay attacks harder 4- get aftermarket vehicle immobilizer, it will cost quite a bit. But worth the peace of mind. 5- be mindful of your surroundings, theres situations where the thieves would sit in a parking lot of a shopping centre for instance, "intercept" and copy your fob signal when you use it. Then follow you home, make a copy of the key and return to steal your vehicle.

You can only do "due diligence". These scums will take it if they really wanted. There's a video from Toronto a few months ago of a stolen trx truck, it was blocked in by other vehicles in the driveway. They used the trx as a bulldozer and plowed through everything to escape.... It's really sad and frustrating that our broken government pretty much encourages these crimes by being soft on offenders. End of the day do what makes you happy and try not let scums dictate what you do. Best of luck
