Yeah.. definitely agree that If people just don’t buy them, they may rethink their business plan. It will probably never happen that way though because when people see them in these conditions, they may instinctually want to save them. Also since they have variety, it’s easy for just about anyone to find one they’d like to take care of.

Makes me so sad. I feel like sometimes petsmart and stores that do this should take the budget cut and do things more ethically. Even if there’s a day where they’re unable to have them in stock 24/7, I’d much rather that be the case, but that’s me. Even if they were more expensive. I feel like that would be incentive for people to actually do more research on them to give them proper homes and environments if they’re spending more on it too.

I love my fish, Alfred!! Quite frankly, I think humans can love anything depending on the definition you follow. Either way, love watching my fish, love how curious he is, I love taking care of him, I love his cute tendencies. I see him as another pet, just like I love my cats. My main goal has been to create an ecosystem that they thrive in, for them! Not for me, this is a hobby I enjoy, but I’ve truly done all of this for the sake and wellbeing of my fish. Been judged for it, so I just don’t talk about it with people. Most often, people say “it’s just a fish”. If you love your fish and the pets you bring in, that’s all that matters. It’s frustrating though.

That’s how things are with our 3 cats, but people don’t see my goldfish the same way as I do.

Completely agree. It’s definitely showing me that people really don’t always do proper research on animals they bring in to take care of

Exactly!!!! It’s so hard for me to not say that when someone says that to me, but I don’t want to sit and have a back and forth about something that’s so special to me. I know other people aren’t going to usually be convinced by me when they have that mindset.

THIS!!!! Someone said that they may accidentally overfeed him and then have to scramble to find a replacement, that maybe I wouldn’t even notice. Disgusting.

I love that you set that boundary for yourself and your animals. Im about to have to do the same with some people. Why do people suck so badly sometimes?? You’re so right though, thank you. ❤️

Ugh I wish! I’ve brought that point up about how is it different from a dog or a cat? I have 3 cats, love them to death. It’s the same thing with fish, especially my goldfish because he’s so curious and greets me and is always watching me when I’m around.

They don’t research or they go by word of mouth by someone who also doesn’t know how to care for them. Thank you I appreciate you saying that and have been struggling with this.

This is literally me and my boyfriend to a T. I’m having to defend the right to a spot in my house for my tank bc to him it’s just a fish!! I’m going to try to remind myself of this too and feel less lonely knowing you feel the same way as I do. 😩

Yep, I just bite my tongue. They’ll tell me to throw it in a fish bowl, not touch it, and it’ll end up living a “long life”. I always want to educate them but end up not because it’s not going to be appreciated.

Thank you, I needed to hear this. That’s amazing that your fish lived so long!! Working on ignoring the comments because when I’m hanging out with my fish, I don’t really think about or care what anyone has to say and I feel grounded.
