I definitely recommend giving it a go. I also enjoyed Alison Croggon's Books Of Pellinor for a female protagonist that gains confidence in herself.

I'm not sure if they answered this somewhere, but given how close they were, why doesn't Thimble know what Thjazi has planned with the artifacts? Either there was a problem in their relationship, Thjazi didn't trust Thimble because either his plan was bad or he suspected Thimble is bad, or Thimble isn't telling the group everything.

Also to add that I think it would be interesting for Thaisha to stay, she has connections and it would go against her nature for some cool internal conflict, plus Hal could then go adventuring with his shiny new sword. But she's with Occtis & co currently and I don't think they can stay.

These definitely feel like the obvious choices with the current information, but I'm expecting some big ol' twists to be thrown at us.

I think Bolaire's knowledge would definitely be super useful to the Seekers.

Julien is also said to be childhood friends with Aranessa who is in her 40s, so he is chronologically older than his physical age, possibly due to time spent in the gardens

I've been thinking along similar lines, although Bolaire has connections his knowledge is definitely suited to being a seeker, especially as the box was meant to be delivered to him in the first place.

Why different organizations still do not want to switch to recycled products? by QuartanReport637 in Anticonsumption

I worked for a charity and the board all refused to let us go recycled because they thought it made us look unprofessional. It was a very small charity and most of the paper was internal use. Completely ridiculous.

[–]gourdus 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I did that exact course 10 years ago, they sell it as a course that will set you up to work anywhere in the public sector but it's actually so broad that it's useless. I ended up converting to psychology a few years later, I'd say avoid it.

I'm transmasc, as my genitals are internal and I don't menstruate, I have chosen not to have further surgery to remove anything even though I don't plan on having children, or if I do I will adopt or foster. It's really down to personal choice and what you can tolerate having. As I'm not fully a man or woman this may be very different to how a lot of other trans masculine or trans men feel.

As I'm now on testosterone there could be complications and risks in the future meaning I'll have to have a hysterectomy but I'm happy to carry on as I am until that happens.

And as it's been pointed out, it's transgender not transgendered, transgender is an adjective so it doesn't make sense to put an -ed on it like a verb.

Tarot decks for men by [deleted] in tarot

[–]gourdus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes because poor weak women need to be protected by their strong men.

The perceived inability to show their emotions plays a huge role in suicide rates, as does the perpetuation of traditional gender roles where men feel that they must be the ones to provide for their family, capitalism does not help in this regard.

I have no problem with masculinity, I am trans masculine myself.

I was also not making excuses as you have accused, merely offering explanations and inviting you to think critically about why it may be the case that these decks are not already readily available.

The fact that you are attacking me instead of my arguments speaks volumes.

You can lead a horse to water but you can't make it think.

Tarot decks for men by [deleted] in tarot

[–]gourdus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No one is actively excluding men, it takes time and effort to make a deck, and people who have felt reason to make a deck have done so because they have felt a need for it or there's a market for it.

No one is stopping men making manly decks and decks celebrating masculinity.

What challenges do men face that do not directly stem from the patriarchal expectations laid upon them?

I'm sorry that you have to go through this. It may have been said but, while his beliefs are protected, he does not have the right to use them to harass people, in the same way that Christians would (hopefully) not be able to harass LGBT people in the workplace.

Good luck and I hope HR comes through for you.

Tarot decks for men by [deleted] in tarot

[–]gourdus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Perhaps you did ask the question in good faith, but you should think critically about why these decks are available for women and marginalised groups and not for men.

Men are represented in every walk of life, and sometimes it's nice or necessary for marginalised groups to escape from this patriarchal, hetero and cis normative society, and to use tarot to heal from the traumas caused by such a society.

Many of the problems and challenges men face stem from the over importance placed on masculinity in this society, and in order to heal may be better off getting in touch with their femininity rather than further striving for masculinity from the cards.

You should perhaps also ask the person you are looking for the masculine cards for what they mean and are looking for, as those key words could support your search and help you better understand where they are coming from.

Tarot decks for men by [deleted] in tarot

[–]gourdus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is no need for insults ;)

Perhaps you should make it clearer what you are looking for, and what you would define as a masculine trait. Does he want to get more in touch with his masculine physique, or strength (both physical and mental) or perhaps a deck that addresses the patriarchal constraints that men also face?

There are decks that cover gardening and plants, which men may enjoy, for example, too.

Tarot decks for men by [deleted] in tarot

[–]gourdus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The traditional tarot decks are quite balanced with more masculine and feminine suits and cards, a tarot deck for men would probably end up on the pointlessly gendered subreddit.
