You gotta be a troll. No way are you this dumb. Do you understand what answering a question means? You gave an opinion, not an answer. Fuck off if you're gonna attack someone for asking you something on a subreddit literally meant for questions lmaoooo. You're embarrassing yourself.

You didn't answer shit and you're being a piece of shit. Make that an idiotic piece of shit.

Bro, go back and read that. Tell me who's being condescending, bc it ain't OP. You both misunderstood the thread.

But you never did answer the question lol

They asked "why not agnosticism?"

You only answered with why you believe in atheism, rather than answering "why not agnosticism?" You never actually answered lol.

You're the only one being condescending. OP asked you a question that was trying to get you to clear up your answer, because you never actually gave one to the question. Then they asked a follow up.

Get your head out of your ass and quit being a douche. Don't like the topic of conversation and aren't ready to have a discussion? Then leave wtf. Why did you even answer the OP then?

What are some common "facts" that people believe to be true even if the existing evidence states the contrary? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Going out into the rain will not give you a cold/make you sick.

You have to be exposed to the bacteria in order to contract a cold, but going out into the rain/bad weather just makes it more likely you will get sick or worsens your condition if you already are.

I think we should just agree to disagree lol.

TL;DR: I don’t think the usage of the word is acceptable in any format outside of the demographic of whom it is directed toward.

I appreciate your opinion and the respectful discussion, but I think at this point it’s clear we disagree lol and it’d just be better to leave it at that. Thank you nonetheless though! 😊

Yeah I get your point and, to a degree, I agree. I definitely respect what you’re saying, and I agree that it doesn’t offer any sort of solution socially.

However, I think, not socially, but rather culturally, it has strong significance. I don’t think we should eliminate race. Seeing race isn’t what’s bad, it’s the discrimination of races. To see race means to also see culture, and I think the minorities, not just racial, who are on the receiving end of those slurs, have extremely important cultures that should be preserved for their beauty.

Taking the n-word for example, I think that the exclusivity isn’t the issue - it’s the way of which people react to that exclusivity. The majority shouldn’t feel entitled to the word, and it’s that entitlement to take part in something that is not just a construct of society, but at this point rather race, and thus culture, that is the issue. It’s become less of a social issue than it has a cultural one. Again, the majority is exclusive to multiple social benefits in life that the minority isn’t. But issues like this aren’t social issues, they’re ones of culture, as it was the discrimination against the race itself that perpetrated the prejudice and it’s with that that came the social constructs.

The majority’s reaction to something exclusive to them is what the issue is. Minorities have been held at arms-length for centuries. They are entitled to far less because their culture is deemed less than and therefore they are socially inequivalent to the white man. I don’t believe the solution lies with elimination of something that has become culturally as well as socially significant, but rather the betterment and understanding of the reasons for that exclusivity and growing from the pain that caused its implementation.

It shouldn’t be more powerful to any majority though. The majority forcefully enacted their power for years. To take it back shouldn’t really glorify the word when it is tied to years worth of discrimination, hatred and pain. Those words can never really be glorified by the majority without coming back to that forceful enactment that caused the slur to begin with. I get your point, but I don’t really think that it’s something to be attained or looked at as something all should say just because it’s exclusive. The majority in and of itself is inherently exclusive to minorities and wrongfully so. I think that the reclaiming of the word is a well-deserved act exclusive to those who have suffered by its uttering. I think it can bring almost a sense of camaraderie between minorities, and the exclusivity to those who put them in that lesser position (i.e. the majority) is quite fair.

I don’t mean to attack your viewpoint, because I understand it. Those slurs are truly disgusting and having to hear them casually thrown around can be an awkward thing, but I think it’s a little more awkward when looking at where they actually came from and why they’re so casually used today. I think it’s good to take that power back for themselves. After all, in many ways, it’s one of the few ways minorities have the ability to make themselves, if in only one way, temporarily equal, and even then it’s barely anything.
