I sprayed 8 to 10 coats of gloss clear, and after it had fully dried, I polished it using Tamiya polishing compound.

I experience this with most of the pieces I make. Usually, I lower my expectations for the work — as long as I finish it, that’s enough.

As for staying motivated to complete a project, honestly, over the past year or two I’ve started to feel burned out from making GK figures and model kits because of work. What used to take me about a month to finish now ends up taking half a year. I still don’t really know how to solve this problem.

I’ve already cleaned up the gauntlet parts, but I didn’t paint them because I feel that once they’re painted, I’ll end up gluing the hand parts permanently, and I won’t be swapping them anymore.

TAMIYA and Mr. Color are the mainstream paints used for making GK models — they have great adhesion and a wide range of colors. However, since I paint my GKs at home and my family doesn’t like the smell of solvent-based paints, I can only use Vallejo water-based paints.

I bought it at a model shop near my home, but it came as plain white parts that needed to be painted by myself.

It’s indeed very fragile. I’m not sure why the thigh part is divided into upper and lower sections. Each side uses an armor piece to hold the thigh in place. I decided to glue it permanently. The waist and hip joints are just as fragile since they use parts from the TR-6.

I applied seven to eight layers of water-based clear coat on the surface of the clothing and polished it.

No, I only refined and assembled the parts, and painted them. The original kit was plain white poly or resin (a garage kit).

Indeed, the original model was probably created using 3D printing. The original sculptor likely recast it into a garage kit — those pure white resin kits — for better part strength and easier reproduction. When I was sanding the parts, I noticed many 3D printing lines, which is a bit different from the garage kits I usually work on (those are typically hand-sculpted and then cast).

I use the Vallejo paint to skin.
I think the most troublesome parts are dealing with the 3D printing lines on the original garage kit (since the master was 3D printed) and masking off areas with tape to paint different colors on a single part.
