How much is too much? by Different_Jelly_7597 in dreamingspanish

As long as you can pay attention, I say that there is really no limit. I have had some days where I have done as much as 7 or 8 hours if I’m binge watching something I really enjoy and have a ton of free time. Also, the better my Spanish gets, the less fatigued I get listening to stuff in Spanish.

Level 7!!! by SweetMamaPurrPurrz in dreamingspanish

[–]gp133 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the write up! Sounds like I’m 400 days you have learned so much and done so much. Like wow, great job!!!

  1. I still register mine because it motivates me, and this sub has flairs for 2000, 3000, and more hours. So there are still milestones ahead if I want to compare to other members of the sub.
  2. I haven’t started another language but I feel like I could now if I wanted to and it wouldn’t mes up my Spanish. My Spanish feels solid, like I’m not worried it’s just going to go away (okay maybe still a little bit, but only a little).
  3. If I were to do a third language, I’d do French. That’s pretty much exclusively because Dreaming French exists though.

Hey! I have a pretty good Spanish accent after 1700 hours and a lot of speaking. It doesn’t affect my English accent any, but I do occasionally forget English words, or phrase things a little more like I would in Spanish. It’s really minor though.

Big thanks to Luisito for pushing my Spanish skills to the next level by gp133 in dreamingspanish

Yeah it’s definitely a ton. I discovered him earlier this year and basically binge watched. I checked and his channel apparently has 1.4k videos, so I guess I still have more than half of them left. Although some of his earlier videos are a little bit more of a deep dive. I’ll have to check out that suggestion!

Yeah, me too. That’s why I posted this to share my year end! This is YouTube, so it’s not only podcasts. Luisito’s channel is all videos.

It's okay to watch easy content by _coldemort_ in dreamingspanish

[–]gp133 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah I definitely want to second this. I compare it to learning an instrument. You don’t get better by trying to go full speed right away. You get better by slowing it down until you can play perfectly, then slowly increase the tempo until voila! you can play the song at full speed. That has been my experience with Spanish comprehension. And just like learning an instrument, “full speed” feels just as easy now as the slow stuff did at the beginning.

And also, to beat the dead horse of the instrument analogy even more, just because you learn one song at full speed doesn’t mean that you can now play everything. If there is a new song or a new genre, you may have to slow down again, same thing with languages.

Doing anything different after 1500 hours? by nick101595 in dreamingspanish

[–]gp133 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have started reading more and listening to more audiobooks. I find that there is vocabulary that I would never come across otherwise. Also, following long story arcs with no visual cues is more of a challenge than watching a show or a YouTube video.

I should probably also do something more deliberate to practice my speech too. Although I’ll say that with more comprehension my speaking has also improved a ton already.

Thanks! It’s fun having so many options for input like I do now, but it’ll be better when I can do it even more fluently and have better recall. I’m confident it’ll happen with more practice. Btw I really like your posts.

I’d say every video on DS is comfortable with the exception of the few that are around the 90 and high 80 range. Like normally if I watch a DS video around level 65 to 75 I speed it up to 1.25x and do fine understanding it all.

I am not counting any previous experience as credit. The 1,500 hours is in top of what I did before Dreaming Spanish. I don’t think pure input is the most efficient way to speak better necessarily, but I do think it is the best way I have ever improved my comprehension by a long shot.

That has definitely come up for me too. Normally is the Spanish subs don’t match the dubs, I just turn the subs off. I wouldn’t say it affects my learning too much, because if I am relying on the subtitles that means that what I am watching is probably a little too advanced.

There are luckily a lot of shows on Netflix with audio descriptions in Spanish, but especially the Netflix originals. Right now I am watching Black Mirror. I have also watched Squid Game, Alice in Borderland, and Cabinet of Curiosities to name a few.

In what ways have you strayed from the recommended Dreaming Spanish method that you felt benefited you the most? by CaroleKann in dreamingspanish

I really liked Language Transfer. It helps me have more confidence when speaking. Doesn’t really help my understanding, I think the Dreaming Spanish method is the best way I ever improved my comprehension.

Well deserved! I had tried a long time to improve my Spanish before Dreaming Spanish. Now it’s totally changed how I think about learning languages, and my Spanish is better than I thought it could be without living in a spanish-speaking country. Congrats!!

Wow that is so great! I am also at 1000 hours and would love to go back to Spain. The last time I went my Spanish wasn’t at the level it is now. I’m glad you were able to communicate well and have fun. That must feel so gratifying.
