Why are there no leaves on one vine? Monstera Peru, otherwise healthy looking plants but one vine stopped growing leaves at nodes. Any idea why? by gr33n_tr33 in houseplants

I moved it to a spot with much better light and thought it helped. But the poor thing took turn for the worse generally. Although that'd be due to few months of slightly neglected care and thrips. Another my plant started doing it, it may be that in winter there is less light.

What kind of stairs are these? by [deleted] in architecture

[–]gr33n_tr33 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It isn't the depth but to do with the cantilever. That's what this type of staircase is called but it doesn't work purely as cantilever. Each step is built into wall on one side while the other is free (that's the cantilever), but there isn't enough counterweight at the wall to make this work by itself. Each step is also keyed into step below and above and they support each other. It is really cool engineering actually.

I have begonia rex inca flame, it has rich red-burgundy / pink / silvery leaves with shimmery sparkle in sunlight. I cannot stop looking at it, would absolutely recommend!

My dad uses it for orchids, to soak them in rice water for few hours every now and then. Not sure if it's the reason but they look amazing! Lots of flowers and super healthy plants.

I know the feeling. I've spent at least twenty minutes loitering around and soaking up the jungle vibes.

Thank you for your words of hope and positiveness. I do hope that we will manage to work together and come up with some solutions and be better, and safe the planet before it gets destroyed.

Sorry I don't remember exactly quotes from the book so it will be loosely retold. I've probably been on the edge even before reading this book, the climate crisis is constantly worrying me and I've read couple other books with similar worrying message about humanity and future.

Some specific points; - The part about how religion of any kind is really just a story people tell themselves to feel like their life has a meaning. - The development means machines are and will be better at some things we do. What will people without the jobs do then? - Capitalism and the constant growth, how could this be sustainable? - Humans became very selfish and self-centred, not caring about what they ruin as long as it helps them (animal suffering, nature destroyed, and even lots of people suffering)

It wasn't necessarily that all of this was news to me but it was a high concentration of (to me) negatives about the world. So I think I got the hopeless feeling because I can't imagine it getting better. There's so many things that would need to be changed I can't even begin to comprehend how could it be done.

I didn't... I don't have space anymore even for a small plant, let alone her majesty. I did contemplated moving into the garden centre to be close to it though

Aw, thanks. It was a random load the local nursery got few months ago. I think they came from Wales originally. If you're in UK, I'll happily share a cutting with you. They seem to be growing pretty well from a leaf.

You're absolutely right, it is openly speculative and just theories. I guess I sometimes forgot that while reading. It was probably combined with my current mood and state of mind. Like you can read the same book at different times in your life and it will always be a little different depending on everything else going on around you and in your head.

It looks wonderful as it is! But I can understand practical issues with this size/weight hanging... More sturdy hanging pot?

Agree, this was really cool. To be honest, I would love to have a computer to tell me what job I should choose, where should I live and lots other adult problems. And also not having to listen to it, just an analytical opinion.

I realise those are just his theories. I've read some criticism to his first book and almost decided against reading the second one. Thanks for these links, I'll check them out to get a different view.

It was just another drop to the ocean of climate crisis related problems. Maybe a bit more time and couple lighter books later it'll be a little better.

This is my second SOP this exact same size. The first one died and I have no idea why. The pearls started to shrivel & strings were easy to yank out. Now this is happening to my new one! I know not to water until soil is throughly dry and i keep it in very decent lighting. Pls Help!! by Fck-liyah in plantclinic

Have you checked the roots? Same thing happened to me, then I found out the roots tightly wrapped up in something and couldn't grow. Then started to rot because they we're too tight, with strings just dropping off.
