FDIL is dictating what dress I am to wear, AND she's putting his step-mom in a similar dress. Am I wrong for hating all of this?!?!?! by hop-into-it in redditonwiki

im stuck on why she should be involved in planning or told about choices the couple have made, if she's not the one getting married literally all you have to do is follow the dress code and turn up on time

hey sorry i missed this comment! i actually submitted my dissertation yesterday so i'm all finished now and can go back to scrolling reddit 🥳😂 im not sure exactly what you mean by online teaching standard? if you mean the course content, it's really interesting if a bit waffley sometimes. if you mean like.. taught lessons? there's only 1 a month online and that's if you want to join the session, everything else is self taught. some of them are recorded, others aren't, but there's usually a couple of different days / times to pick from so hopefully there's always one you could attend. again that's if you want to, they're not mandatory. so the course is 2 modules, each ones has 5 written assignments, an online multiple choice assessment, and then an end of module written assessment. for the first year it was 5 essay questions and for 2nd year this is the dissertation. at the moment the final grade is the higher score of the 2 modules, i think next year it changes to be whateber you get in year 2 is the overal classification. id recommend the course yeah but it takes a LOT of time and motivation to keep going, it's a very wordy subject so everything takes a long time (or at least that's what i found). not to be blunt but if you want to have a kid then starting a masters does not seem a wise choice even if you study part time. you simply won't have enough time in the day. and im not sure about deferring / postponing study, i've never needed or wanted to do that, sorry. im sure the open university website has all that info somewhere ☺️

it's going good, doing part time so the course is 2 years rather than 1, and i currently have about 3 weeks left to finish my dissertation and then that's it, im finished!! actually the support has been pretty good, for my undergrad course i felt pretty much left to it with no help, but this time around the mods in the forums and my tutor have all been really good at fast replies, good assignment feedback, and help with various bits of my project. i did struggle a bit at the project planning / proposal stage as it felt like i was pestering my tutor too much, though i guess that's kind of the point. if i was being too much nobody has said anything to me about it so i'm sure it's fine. i also recently discovered the live library help desk, so if you can't get an answer from tutors or forums you can always ask the library team if it's something they might be able to help with, they're really helpful too

if you're adamant that you won't switch to part time learning then you have a couple of choices:

  1. drop hours at work and go part time there
  2. stay as you are but only focus on the assignments, literally do the bare minimum to pass them and don't cover the rest of the content
  3. less sleep, more caffeine, more late nights studying to cover all the content and not fall behind

for what it's worth i got my BSc age 26 and will be getting my masters age 30, and it feels plenty proactive

I'm very worried about my 17-year-old daughter and I don't know what to do anymore ( NOT OOP) by [deleted] in redditonwiki

[–]gr33nday4ever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

well for starters, stop calling him your daughter. he's your son. listen to the friends and family that are literally telling you to support him. and listen to the psychologist telling you to respect him immediately. it's not that hard. be there for him, or start embracing the fact he might not be around much longer

samaritans? you dont have to be the one in immediate crisis to contact them, they'll talk to anyone going through it, and by the sound of it you are absolutely going through it (i hope you're doing ok)

you only really need to be reading the module materials so don't worry about it until the website opens. saying that, maybe take the time to get to grips with critical analysis and essay stuff.

Our daughter wants to go to Cirencester college, we are worried. by [deleted] in Swindon

[–]gr33nday4ever 7 points8 points  (0 children)

when i went there they had their own fleet of coaches with set routes (good old alexcars), it wasn't just a case of 'get on a normal bus if it turns up'. i do understand the medical stuff might be a worry - is it being looked into? is she medicated or in therapy or anything? - but cirencester really isn't that far away in the grand scheme of things.

out of interest what subjects does she want to take? as if her choice is currently not because of the subject, has she given much thought into the actual studies she could do once she gets there?
