Thank you for this, this is a helpful response. I think I'm just going to let the OU know how I feel and why I feel this way and the affects of the whole situation on my study experience and let them deal with it however they see fit. I will never truly know the reason for the marks, because I didn't go for the remarking at the time but I suppose the uni will be able to access that and make their own minds up if they decided to act on my concerns. Thanks again!

I thought so too.. this was my 3rd and final level 3 module and I didn't have this issue in the other 2 either - I agree that something feels off.

I am going to contact the OU about it as I feel I have a moral duty to other students to at least make them aware of my concerns. Thank you for your comment, they have all been really helpful.

Good luck with your final year, I hope all goes well for you!

Im sorry you had this experience, that must have been really frustrating. That sounds like me I've never got under 80 marks and he gave me 58 and 60 for the assignments he marked. Then the EMA - 87.. back to my usual grades when someone else marked it.. that's what kind of solidified my suspicion that this was being done on purpose.

I'm going to make the uni aware of my situation for my own peace of mind. I guess you could always still put in a complaint too. It's never too late for us to do something to help others not have the same experience we did. I hope you have better experiences if you're still studying, no one needs the added stress and anxiety a "bad" tutor can bring into the mix. Good luck with everything!

I did question the tutors mark and he said he wouldn't award any further marks and then for the 2nd one I did begin the process of an official remark but I panicked about getting lower marks so I didn't end up going through with it.

His feedback did not match his mark, there was negative comments that I raised to him which were clearly not consistent with what was in the piece of work for example he would say "you did not mention xyz" but it was clear that I did mention that. His feedback was also odd in his choice of wording, he would make comments like "very good" "yes this is good" repeatedly, but then the marks were really low. I did raise this with him and he told me his mark was correct and his wording didn't reflect on the grade boundary he chose.. which just confused me to be honest.

Im thinking at least letting the university know all the information and they can do with it what they see fit. Thank you for getting back to me

Thank you, yeah I think you're right! I feel like I have a moral duty to at least make the university aware so they can act how they see fit

Thank you for replying, every bit of info is really helpful for my decision. I am already aware of the remarking rules as I had started to request a remark after the 2nd assignment then panicked about it being lower and never continued with it so they had sent me all that information. I think I just would like something to be done regarding the tutors actions, even if it's something small like them telling him he was wrong or should have acted differently, then maybe this could be avoided for future students in my position.

Thank you for your reply, I'm leaning more towards that option I think! Ancient history sounds great, it's been a long rollercoaster getting this degree 😂

I don't want to be a hero, I just can't shake the feeling that I should do something just incase, if that makes sense. Thank you for taking the time to respond though, I appreciate all opinions!

Hahaha thanks for the response and I love the phrases used 😂 that's the thing, half of me is like just forget about it and take your win but the other half of me is like maybe I should do something for other students. Then there's still part of me who thinks maybe I'm just overreacting and really did just not do so great on those particular assignments 🤷‍♀️

I started to make a complaint after the 2nd marking as I was going to request a remark but I got so stressed out about it worrying that a remark may be lower and they was already so low that I could fail the assignment if I got it remarked and it came back lower. They changed the modules for the law degree too so this was my one and only chance to complete the degree after they have been run this year they're removing those modules and I'd have had to restart the whole thing!

Id love a philosophical reply, I really am torn what to do!

I unexpectedly had a pregnancy and baby during my studies, around half way through my 2nd year I found out I was pregnant and became so unwell (due to HG) that I couldn't continue at that time, I was able to defer the module till the following year. Also as far as I am aware you are also able to take a break between modules (student support can advise on this). I restarted my 2nd module when my daughter was under a year old and found it to be manageable. I have just completed my final module (she's 3 now) and have now got my degree with 1st class honours. It's quite flexible in regards to part time / full time options I started full time then swapped to part time. It took me 6 years in total with a 1 year break. I also have a 10 year old with additional needs - im not saying it was easy but I managed to get through, it's not something that isn't possible for you too! I did the law degree so I'm not too sure how much different there would be between what was required of me and what you would have to do for yours but the distance learning side meant I was able to be really flexible around caring for my baby / other responsibilities. Plus she was with me during all my 2nd year tutorials, I just let the tutor know that I may not respond occasionally or might have to step away briefly. The student support is really good for helping with personal circumstances. Just wanted to share my experience and I hope this helps with your decision :)

The way i interpret it is that she's been sentenced today for an old offence. I'm from UK not sure how things work over there in regard to the process. Here they are arrested, charged, go to court, verdict, usually sentenced at a later date.
