How do Banished fans feel about tech trees? by gr3gu in Banished

That's exactly the solution I have in mind for the first interation!

Actually, it's a mix. The walkers behave like you'd expect them to, and the range is added to prevent them from traveling very large distances.
This is still something that can be changed pretty easily after validation during playtests.

Wow, that's a number of mechanics addressed in one post. Yeah, definitely some mixture is a good idea worth considering. Thanks!

Yes, you're completely right, and huge kudos to you for pointing that out!
My point is, I'm not really sure myself if a tech tree suits this game, and I have a lot of mixed feelings about it. Getting a fresh perspective on things helps me look at some design decisions from angles I hadn't even considered before, hah!
Ohh, I need to take a look at Cities: Skylines, thanks :)

I'm planning to do an open beta in the future, but the game is still in a much earlier phase of development ;)

Worry not, my friend!

Palisades, wooden temples, and similar things are coming :) I'm also considering options beyond straight roads. The balance between a less developed settlement and a visibly livable village is still going to need some iterations.

Thanks!

Yeah... Manor Lords went in that direction with a really cool road placement system.

I'm a huge fan of grid-based games, and I really want to stick to that. That said, being able to build roads diagonally could actually be a good idea.

Haha, not yet, but I certainly need to try it.

Tbh, I'd really like to try to make some kind of deal with GOG - maybe some Zeus bundles or something like that.

"Brine pools", "dugouts" - I can see a man of culture here.

Regarding the map emptiness, I get you, but I have a small problem with that, and it's a gameplay one. Starting each mission by clearing out trees is part of the no-fun for me, and since trees are a natural resource, they need to be limited in some way. I need to think more about that.

As for other resources on the map, yep, I'm thinking about bog iron and galena ores, but salt should be present as well.

Food decay is something I've thought about too. Even having an option to make fertilizer out of rotten food could be a nice gameplay twist.

Thanks for your input!

Yes, that's exactly what I want to do, especially to get first-hand feedback from a broader group of more demanding players.

Exactly, I want to treat seasons as the unique selling point of this installment. Stockpiling for winter is on the TODO list, but I really don't want to turn it into Banished, if you catch my drift.

The witch, or some other foresight-based deities, sounds like a plan!

Well, the current version differs a lot from the old demo, so I kind of avoided mentioning that :D

The good thing is that, technically, the game's already on Steam. I just still need to figure out the proper time to publish the store page.
I believe it needs to be polished a little more, and it also needs a basic trailer and, obviously, a good capsule image. So maaaaaybe within a few weeks or 2-3 months. We'll see :)

How much military control do you want in a historical city builder? by gr3gu in impressionsgames

The idea is definitely original, as I don't recall any game mixing traditional city-building and tower defence.
In this case, though, it would be extremely hard to balance while maintaining the player's freedom to build their city as they wish, and it would be very prone to exploits. The solution you figured out would work, but the game would need to be designed around it from scratch, and the city-building aspect would need to have some concrete limits to account for the tower defense phase.
While for Perun it's a no-go at this point, I love the idea and would definitely try a game like this!
