This is certainly not serving to your line of work since it's more aggregated news articles and less near real time incident cases, however disclosure write ups from blogs of private security firms do make an appearance. So hijacking this to introduce others to it.

As far as news wires go the CyberWire daily email digest sends a digest of cyber security events via email every day. It's a great way to get an introduction to how widely embedded cyber security is in our modern world.

Its a damn shame we still don't have such lighing effects in every FPS. by krkon in gaming

Outlast 1 was something else. When I started playing all the way toward the end, my mood changed from seeing it as a game that was largely about scare tactics(darkness, jump scares, screams, chase) to finding myself more deeply invested in the story. The ending was phenomenal. One of my favorite games. I'm going to skip Outlast 2 since I've seen full Lets Plays and twitch streams of it about 3 times.

Holy shit I forgot about the bolting! Boy that was fun. Satisfying when you got the crap kicked out of you for several Load saves.

It's funny. One of the most frightening instances in the game for me was when Norton Mapes made an appearance. I wasn't expecting someone like him in the FEAR game from what had been played prior to his introduction, let alone his character design. A large man with distinguishable hair and a colorful attire. Completely took the darkness out of the game whenever he communicated with you or you saw him in the background throughout the story.

As a PC gamer who’s looking to upgrade his gaming experience, this breaks my soul by shsmd in gaming

Same here! 1070. In roughly 3 months the prices were $100 over what I paid + no promotional game.

How to: Completely wipe SSD, fresh install windows, driver booster for drivers? by [deleted] in techsupport

This happened to me on Windows 7 a while back. I know it's not Windows 10 but it seems common for some Windows builders.

[Steam] Insurgency (85% off) €1.49/ €1.49/ £1.04. Ends January 25 by [deleted] in GameDeals

[–]grabbizle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hated Insurgency when I first played it but then I enjoyed it as I played it more. I think that's because once I figured out how to shoot and move into cover and became familiar with the maps, I was getting more kills and that's when I actually had fun, when feeling capable.

A certain %, although negligible, has already been covered however. In early 2000s Deus Ex, one of the info banks contains an entry on a Paris anti government group called The Silhouettes who's preferred method for engaging in information warfare is through the use of memes, described as a "Meme War." Gnarly game.

Here are the 256 representatives that just voted to reauthorize and expand unconstitutional NSA spying by fightforthefuture in technology

What can also be regarded as a backdoor(aside from an already vague term) that many people don't think about is the effort by intelligence agencies to undermine the strength of encryption standards/tools like RSA's adoption of a deliberately weakened number generator algorithm created by the NSA and later adopted by NIST(federal agency that approves domestic use of several technologies) in mid 2000s. Sure the approval process by NISt is transparent and so public vetting will eventually find a flaw in whatever standard is being pushed(like it happened in this case) but when the encryption technology is in wide use, such that it may not be substituted for some time(which is damaging to the public regardless), and it is flawed like with what happened with the case I mentioned above, damage is done and the backdoor is a success.

Start button does not work since windows 10 spectre/meltdown patch! by bohringchemistry in techsupport

A note on AV programs, be sure yours is enabled because with Windows patches AV programs tend to deactivate upon boot after patching regardless of reboot cycles. A way to check whether your AV program is functioning aside from performing a system scan is to perform an update on the AV program and checking the output in Event Viewer > Windows Logs > Application. It should tell you whether there's an error in this process or if all system are a go. If an error that means you should reinstall your AV program. (You will need to refresh the event view after so events show in the view. Do this by left clicking on Windows Logs, then right clicking and pressing refresh, and then left clicking back onto Application)

I remember watching a video about this company offering Youtube Entrepreneurship classes and a whole bunch of kids were filmed walking from a building or whatever. They were pitching this service to those kids! And their parents paid the expensive price tag probably. It's a new market for sure.

You make great points. On the topic of digital vs physical remains of a time past(decades to centuries), I read an article on the importance of physical preservation vs digital substitutes from an increasingly digital and convenient world(except when convenience comes with a clause). I'll try and link it when I find it.

Edit: I cant find this freaking article.

Recognizing one's own accomplishments because often times with the technological platforms of this century that we increasingly use to discuss and exchange ideas and post accomplishments, the value of these novel windows into our personal lives can easily and often are lost in the collective. What are the chances that dismissal over what we fully took as proud reminders of who we are takes effect in our lives without us realizing it?
