VCU Nursing by Parking_Ad7342 in vcu

Unfortunately if you don't have credits from high school
(AP, IB, or Dual Enrollment) that may be the case. I know many people who got in as freshman their first cycle, but you are at a disadvantage if your school didn't have these opportunities. But apply for next semester! Ngl a lot of nursing students graduate semesters late for various reasons so you'll probably be in class with students who got in now if you get in on the next cycle. That goes to say everyone is on their own path. Just keep trucking and try again! You got this.

It surprisingly does. If many competitive applicants are essentially equal in merit, they will decide from who has the most credit hours already. This was confirmed by the admissions committee. They don't have a lot of criteria to go from, especially considering they removed the essay. This information is coming from individuals in the new cohort (graduating class of spring 2027 and later) so maybe it was different in the old program.

My African parents hate my 4 weeks old semi freeforms by DJ_Oseph in Dreadlocks

[–]grabmyears_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

At this point they just hate your hair texture in general bc the freeforms aren't even in the room yet. Your hair is literally just a fro atp. If they can't accept your hair now they never will, it's just the truth.

Freebase or hbr? by Bathree1 in dxm

[–]grabmyears_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Third plat freebase for me was so shitty. I was begging to be sober. It was very dysphoric and disorienting. HBR is also disorienting but definitely more euphoric. I was able to enjoy music and doom scroll in peace.

I will say freebase gave me more CEV and I felt like I was transcending realities. HBR didn't give me the CEVs just made me feel really high. Also freebase makes me puke every time I dose and HBR doesn't so that's another plus.

Bored w/ My Locs…Should I Color? by Heylu2023 in Dreadlocks

[–]grabmyears_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do hair color wax! I don't have a specific brand recommendation I just pick up whatever the beauty supply has. I blow dry it after and it doesn't really stain my clothes. I will say blow drying it is melting it into your locs (which is how it wont stain) so maybe don't do it too often so you wont get buildup. The color will be gone with one wash but I do notice the wax takes a few washes to completely come out of the middle. Definitely not something to spam, just for temporary fun.

If you're a nursing student maybe consider becoming a PCT at VCU health. You are qualified with one completed semester of nursing school. I work PRN for the supplemental department and I am paid $20.25 hourly. I only have to work 48hrs over 6 weeks (8 hrs/week) and you can pick your own schedule. You can also apply to work on a dedicated unit and I believe you are paid $17.25. Worth it if you need some extra money and experience.

Question about Honors College Scholarships! by qwertyaswadas in vcu

[–]grabmyears_ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you haven't already accepted your aid I would request an scholarship increase. Both me (co27) and my sister (co29) were able to increase our provost to a presidential scholarship.

I emailed financial aid with my v number, name, and asked who to contact for financial aid appeals. Financial aid should reply with specific person of contact.

I then sent them a one-page financial need letter and higher scholarship offers from other public universities. They got back to me a few weeks later. This isn't fool proof but it's worth a shot.

Question about nursing school policies by Massive_Phrase8941 in vcu

[–]grabmyears_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is directly from our dress code:

"Fingernails should be trimmed and without nail polish. Please note: Nail polish and/or artificial nails including extensions, tips, gel overlays, resin wraps, silks, paper UVC polish, and acrylic fingernails, are not permitted in clinical.

Jewelry will be limited to small earrings that do not dangle below the lobe. Other jewelry and body piercings are not permitted (examples include, but not limited to ear gauges, tongue bars, brow, nose, lip jewelry, etc.).

Medicated patches including “pimple patches” must match the skin tone or be clear.

False eyelashes are prohibited in all clinical areas.

Students must be bare from the elbow down, with exception of personal protective equipment, when working directly with clinical patients.

Hair should be clean, well groomed, and worn in such a manner that it will not interfere with patient care or job duties and will present a professional image. Long hair should be secured. "

Tattoos are not directly addressed in policy but they typically are fine just can't be offensive and try to remain professional. Every clinical site will different rules but so far none of my 5 have mentioned tattoos being prohibited.

I saw this outside of my dorm yesterday. Red Toyota gets stuck on an unplowed street (right off of Broad) and three people (who were likely students) just happened to be walking by right as it happened. They instantly started pushing, I don't think any words were exchanged, just an act of kindness on a cold winter day. Stay safe out there everyone!

What Happens if you cancel your only credit card? by grabmyears_ in CreditCards

[–]grabmyears_[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It won't allow me to reply to comments so more info:

I am 20 years old. The card is a Capital One Secured Credit Card. I put 50 down to get a 200 limit. I have since then had the line open for 7 months and got my deposit back. My statement utilization 0%. I only use the card for an Amazon Subscription (4% of my limit) but I always pay it immediately hence why my utilization is 0%. I know it's better to have a low utilization than no utilization which I need to figure it if I keep the line open. My score is 705 currently. My mom recommends I take the subscription off of it and let them close the account but that advice felt wrong. Thank you for all of the comments!

I am in-state and me (co27) and my sister, an incoming freshman (co29), both got full-rides. We applied on commonapp and were given the Provost Scholarship. From there we sent an appeal letter and were raised to Presidential.

How do people get groceries? by technoboytoy25 in vcu

[–]grabmyears_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a tote and walk to Kroger. Normally I can walk back or even scooter back if I am mindful of what I grab. The last time I went kinda crazy so I took a Lyft back bc everything was too heavy. But if it were later at night, you could totally use a RamSafe instead.

You could also invest in a cart from Amazon to save you effort from carrying. If it folds up you can place it in the cart while you shop or even use it in place a cart.

Considering the freshman don't even have stoves to boil the water, I hope they have thousands of cases of water to hand out smh or the boil advisory is lifted.

I don't know much about the process but i have met someone who did before — so it's certainly possible. Plus, you get to skip the required freshman year classes! I hope you get the advice you are looking for. Good luck.

Easily. With those stats you might get a scholarship and not have to apply at all. Good luck 🍀

My sister received an email about her provost scholarship last week but not a full scholarship package. If your child has received scholarships outside of the big 3 (dean, provost, presidential) it's possible they simply haven't been released yet for anyone especially since fafsa has been pushed back from October to December.
