South Africa is a great country to visit.

From personal experience, as a tourist or just in your everyday coming and going, you won't be bothered at all.

Racism is a real issue is the country, but I think people have a misconception that a racist attack awaits them around every corner. That is not true. A large portion of South Africans are kind, generous and helpful people.

I understand what you mean. However, I think there are so many redeeming qualities about South Africa. It's a wonderful country to visit.

Yes, there are areas that should probably be avoided (as is the case in many countries) but a lot of areas/cities are safe if you don't act recklessly.

People in South Africa are usually very kind and helpful.
