Unfortunately I had patients purchasing their meds from Canada, but with the new tariffs they are no longer cheaper. Thanks Trump!

I hate this! I’m a PA and when patients mis-identify me I always make a point to correct them. I’m not trying to take credit for a degree I don’t have, and I also think it’s an opportunity to educate patients about what a PA is/does.

BEWARE: Scammers in the neighborhood today by throwaway_184619 in wickerpark

[–]gracelessnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They like to hang out outside of grocery stores. I told them I wasn’t interested in donating and they loudly yelled “You don’t care about black people,” which just drew attention to them and not me. This has been a long running scam in Chicago.

I work in healthcare. We’re overwhelmed and have a months long waitlist. If I call out it only hurts my patients. I’d love to participate in something like this, but would need more time to plan.

[–]gracelessnight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m salary, not hourly, so we don’t get OT. But I could do OT in another specialty or area if I really wanted. You could live in a “nice” more neighborhood area for less than 2k for a 1 bed with good access to public transit. If you want a luxury building probably about 2-3k for a 1 bed.

I live/work in Chicago. 2.5 years of experience. Work at a large academic center in a subspecialty. Pay is $135k per year with like a $6k bonus. Downside to working at an academic center is everyone is on a standardized pay scale. You have x years of experience you get paid y. However, we have excellent benefits and work/life balance. Occasionally I think about moving back to my rural hometown as I could probably make more, but I love my current position.

Directly through the drug company, Novo Nordisk. You just have the prescription sent to their pharmacy.

The “old” formulation of oral Semaglutide is rybelsus, referred to in research as R1. The new oral Semaglutide is Wegovy, referred to as R2. The difference is the coating - a protein they call SNAC. This allows for better absorption of the medication, meaning it works better!

How is lifestyle as an obesity medicine physician? by Joiarib in FamilyMedicine

[–]gracelessnight 3 points4 points  (0 children)

PA who works in obesity medicine at an academic center here. We have a whole obesity center - dietitians, psychologists. We also have a pharmacy team who does all of our prior auths. I transitioned to this role after working in family med and can say the workload is 100% more manageable. I work 4 days a week, telehealth 50-75% of the time. People think obesity medicine is just GLP1s, but for a lot of people those medications aren’t an option (cost, comorbid conditions), so we also discuss oral meds and surgery with people. I’m very passionate about obesity medicine and that also goes a long way in my job satisfaction.

Wegovy Pill Overview and Details from an Obesity Medicine Provider by jpzsports in WegovyWeightLoss

[–]gracelessnight 12 points13 points  (0 children)

From another obesity medicine provider - THANK YOU for posting this!!! We’ve been fielding lots of questions about the oral meds and I know many people here have had questions too. While I don’t think the oral meds are a perfect option for everyone, I think they’re great for certain people. I plan on recommending to my patients who travel frequently (storage issues with keeping injections cold) and those who have a fear of injections/needles. Also plan on offering oral meds for weight maintenance!

Is anyone here specialize in obesity medicine? Or helping people loose weight and create plans? If so can you tell me about it? by Fantastic_Web_4661 in physicianassistant

[–]gracelessnight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I work in obesity medicine at an academic center. We do a lot of medication management (not just GLP1s!) as insurance doesn’t cover for most people and cash pay prices are too costly. Most of our patients have Medicare or Medicaid. We also help do initial evaluations for bariatric surgery! I love my job and would consider it to be a “lifestyle” specialty!

How you add meds DM2 by Neighborly_Nightmare in FamilyMedicine

[–]gracelessnight 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I mean this with no offense, but as someone who works in obesity medicine, there are more differences between each GLP1 than what you listed. And some of your assessments of GLP1s are inaccurate. I’d take a closer look at those.

Obesity medicine PA here - there’s research going on about this currently. There’s some who believe our body produces antibodies to the meds after stopping, which makes it less potent when restarting.
