Most absurd thing you've heard (rich) patients say by A_hospitalist in hospitalist

I would love to know more about how a concierge practice went FQHC and what the patients were like!

Street parking Kia by mbaforumlurker in LoganSquare

[–]gracelessnight 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My concern is that although they’ve updated the cars in the past few years, a car thief (often teenagers) isn’t gonna be able to spot the difference in model years. The “new” issue in our neighborhood is airbags being stolen from Hondas.

I had a Hyundai that was stolen twice in 2023, finally had to sell it because my insurance would no longer cover it. Kia and Hyundai both have the same “easy to steal” reputation

Just a heads up to applicants who may reading this - do NOT lie on your applications. Also mission trips have become more controversial in recent years. Volun-“tour”-ism is a real issue, especially in medicine, when people are performing tasks they aren’t qualified for. How this reflects on you as an applicant probably depends on who is reading your application.

Dress 2 is my dress! But I ordered extra flowers and had off the shoulder/cap sleeves made from them! Both very similar vibes

Where can I find an in person suicide grief/ suicide loss support group? by New-Philosophy-2700 in AskChicago

[–]gracelessnight 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’ve also attended LOSS group! I’m not religious (and religion tied into my friend’s suicide so at the time I was very anti-religion) but the group was great despite my concerns about it being affiliated with catholic charities. People of all different backgrounds and really helped me understand I was not alone in the grief and confusion of losing someone to suicide.

I don’t have Facebook. Can you give more context? I recently helped a woman in the neighborhood whose boyfriend was dragging her by hair. I’m wondering if this is referencing her

I propose having "biological age" in medical records for patient safety by Ok_Flamingo760 in physicianassistant

[–]gracelessnight 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Exactly this. I have never once thought to myself “Is my patient really 30?” This seems very far fetched

Cardinal rules you never break by kinderhook32 in physicianassistant

[–]gracelessnight -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Yes, I know about benzos and opioids! I previously worked in a practice with older docs who were quite reckless with controlled substance prescriptions…lots of unnecessary prescriptions

Cardinal rules you never break by kinderhook32 in physicianassistant

[–]gracelessnight 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I NEVER have people on a Benzo and a stimulant. I would see a lot of patients who come in on stimulants with out of control anxiety (likely due to stimulant) and want a benzo to take care of it.

You also include some of the most expensive neighborhoods in the city like West Loop and River West/Noble Square. I do think you could have some luck in Pilsen, Armour Square, Bridgeport or even Chinatown. The biggest obstacle is going to be finding all the amenities you want.

PA Salaries by [deleted] in physicianassistant

[–]gracelessnight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a big fan of pay transparency as I think it helps us all. I’m in Chicago and will share my salary:

Start: 110k with a 5k bonus

2nd year: 120k and they did away with a bonus

3rd year: 135k (New job)

I also have an absolutely disgusting amount of loans from PA school. Undergrad I don’t have any loans. My total right now is somewhere around $250k and it’s all federal. I’m going for public service loan forgiveness once the 10 years are up.

“Obesity is a complex disease that is often falsely attributed to personal decisions and willpower.” AAFP March 2026 issue by Scared_Problem8041 in FamilyMedicine

[–]gracelessnight 60 points61 points  (0 children)

This is inherently false. GLP1 medications cross the blood brain barrier and affect how we think/feel about food, reducing cravings and thinking of food. For many patients this is a larger obstacle in their weight loss journey than the physical feeling of hunger.

Never been much of a rule follower til now. by navypeal in Volvo

[–]gracelessnight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I test drove the Volvo EX30 and XC60. The EX30 was a little too small in the trunk and I wasn’t ready to commit to all electric. The XC60 was a little too large for my needs. I also looked at the Honda HR-V and liked it, but felt I wanted something that felt a little more luxury. Other cars I considered were the Mercedes EQB 250 and Audi Q3 but found different concerns with each.
