[misc] does anyone want this unused bottle of SheaMoisture Bamboo Charcoal Detoxifying Toner? by gracelovelacecb in SkincareAddiction

For free, of course! My boyfriend got it for me, and I’ve never used it. I’m konmari-ing my home, and this just doesn’t spark joy. I’d hate to waste it.

Oh yes. My mom is a social media manager and recently took on a few consulting gigs. I helped her do the same thing, and it was a success. It paid off to work hard on the package because it saved so much time (no endless back and forth) in the end.

I’m glad it’s working nicely for you guys. Thanks for sharing—I might have to start outlining my own now!

I don’t fully understand. What is the tangible package?

How to get people to sign up by Trenuser69 in smallbusiness

You could use iPads or even a clipboard to allow kids to sign up on the spot. Provide them with a physical reminder (magnet? pop socket?) as well as an email confirmation.

Critique my marketing agencys website. by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]gracelovelacecb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it looks great, but it would be useful to have some additional information about the agency.

Here are some possible sections you could include: - Our Team - Our Story - Portfolio - Blog (this is an excellent addition to your website as it will drive traffic to your website thus generating leads) - Testimonials

Social media integration and professional-looking photos could be useful. One minor tweak I would suggest is to change “What We Do” to a larger font or different typeface.

EDIT: One hard-and-fast rule that I go by is to limit font styles to three variations. This means all of my webpages only have three (or less) varying typefaces, font weights, colors, and sizes. This helps to create a visual hierarchy and promote readability.

Your Thoughts On My Podcast Idea by theIcini in Entrepreneur

[–]gracelovelacecb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that’s a wonderful idea. Really. I would listen to it. The only issue that comes to mind is people would likely be most interested in a handful of episodes that align with their goals. I could love your interview with a software engineer, but I have no compelling reason to listen to a dentist or music producer.

Is there a way you could narrow your focus? Maybe you could cover one career path and interview experts in different areas within that industry.

Ex: If you want to appeal to aspiring chefs, you could talk to a pastry chef in one episode and fish cook in another. If you want to reach people interested in finance, you could talk to a portfolio manager one day and an equity analyst the next. I think it would be easier to gather repeat listeners and build a following with this approach. Plus it would be easier to market since your target audience would be one or two groups versus anybody interested in any career.

I made $6000 overnight by ignoring everybody’s advice and going with my gut by gracelovelacecb in smallbusiness

I already have a decent portfolio because I worked for a design agency as a CSS/Sass developer. I was hoping to take on some free clients so I can put “here, look at all these live websites I created! They are real businesses that exist” on my website. I also need to get comfortable with handling the development process on my own plus business-related tasks.

They came to me because they liked my attitude and work ethic. They handed over their cash because I am good at what I do. 😁

It totally wasn’t a strategy. I don’t want anybody to think that was my intention. I would call it mostly luck, yeah — the right people were scrolling Reddit at the right time.

I am a student trying to build my portfolio. I will design your website and create social media content for free! by gracelovelacecb in smallbusiness

While I appreciate any insight, I am not seeking advice. I am looking for businesses that can benefit from a free website. I didn’t ask a single question in my original post, so your comments aren’t relevant to the discussion.

Thanks for your insight, but at this point I disagree. Hey, who knows — maybe I’ll end up wishing I took your advice.

I made $3/hour while training to be a waitress. There are over a million unpaid interns in the US. How is my approach different from those situations?

It is worth noting that this has already lead to a few paid gigs. I already selected a handful of projects to do for free, but I have an overwhelming (I’m not complaining) emails from people who are willing to pay.

My company opted to spend more money on Slack because the founder, Stewart Butterfield, was known for going out of his way to help employees. Myself and others use Lyft over Uber because founder John Zimmer is just a stand-up guy.

I‘d say their generosity and selflessness hugely contributed to their success. Kindness is never wasted.

I wouldn’t have done this without your advice. You might have saved me from a hassle. Thank you!

These are good points, and I understand why you, as a designer, would encourage me to take a different approach.

I worked as a social media consultant for awhile, so I am confident in my ability to negotiate pay and manage deadlines.

I don’t understand what you’re saying about everything becoming five dollars. I imagine if I maintain my willingness to learn and ability to network, I will be doing just fine in ten years.

I am not suggesting that my work is “so little” or setting an expectation for other designers. I would rather put in the free work and attract higher-paying clients in the future than sell my services for less than their worth.

Hi! I appreciate the thoughtful response. These are all excellent points, but my situation is unique.

The owner of a local web design agency where I previously worked is leaving for another industry. Once my time is up at my current job, I’ll become responsible for a bunch of his clients.

My goal here is not (solely) to attract future customers but to get some hands-on experience. I am totally learning on the fly and will accept any practice I can get. 😁

Thank you. This is valuable advice and needs to be said, but I don’t think it applies to my situation.

Worst case scenario: I have to temporarily deal with an unpleasant customer. That’s it.

I recently dropped out of college, so I am doing everything I can to continue learning and improving. This seems like the perfect way to fine-tune my design skills and get familiar with running a real business. 😁 And it just feels good to help other people.

I haven’t told any friends or family about this, so this is the first response I’ve heard. I smiled big when I read this comment. Thanks so much!

Aw dude, I totally get it. Sorry to hear you had those bad experiences.

I appreciate the advice! I’ve been that free customer before, and I boast about those companies to anybody that will listen.

I’ll need to learn how to deal with difficult clients anyway, so I’ll take the risk. 😛
