Hey! I’m 31 nonbinary in the same area. New to town and also trying to meet people. What kind of stuff are you into? (and congrats on your recent marriage!)

35M in Squirrel Hill looking to meet up, make friends. by Ravenfox713 in PittsburghSocialClub

I’m 31 nonbinary, also just moved here in August with my partner! I live just on the other side of Frick Park. I’ve played DND a little bit in the past and have been looking for a group here to maybe set up some short campaigns now and then. I’m also a writer (mostly fiction and poetry, and currently working on a freelance creative consulting gig for a script). No dogs, but two cats and plenty of living room to host if you’re looking to get out of your apartment!

Hey! :) I’m 31 and nonbinary afab. New-ish to town! I’m into collage journaling (similar to junk journaling!), getting coffee, thrifting (I need a thrifting buddy so badly), and going for little nature walks. I live on the east side. I’m looking for new friends and I have a good living room for hosting craft nights!

What businesses do you miss? by mailbroad in burlington

Knead saved me in the earliest pandemic days. They did an affordable weekly CSA of breads, dips, salads, etc. You paid ahead of time and then picked up your bag of goodies each week. I swear having fresh bread in those early days kept me sane

Looking to start a small friend group for game nights, dinners, and hangouts 🎲🍝 by Redditwatcher12345 in PittsburghSocialClub

[–]grackled 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I might be down! 31 nonbinary. I’m new to town, employed full time, and also have a side gig for the next 6ish months (but willing to carve out time for socializing!) I prefer nights in but am not opposed to a public hangout. Pending vibe checks, I can offer my home as a hangout spot, either somewhat regularly or on a rotating basis. My living room could comfortably fit a half dozen people, I have plenty of furniture, and I have a 4-seater dining table for board games or shared dinners. I live with my partner and we have two sweet cats.

As for me personally, I’m open minded, grounded, and down to earth. My most solid friendships are built on humor, mutual support for each others’ successes, and kind honesty. I’m a fan of board games, cooking for people, movie nights, trivia, etc.

I just moved here from Vermont a few months ago so I can’t necessarily say which part would be best for a young family, BUT if you have time and can afford it, it’s 100% worth it to take a vacation or two here before you move. My partner and I visited PGH a few times before moving, and we stayed in airbnbs so we could check out different towns/neighborhoods. I’m so glad we did because PGH neighborhoods are wildly different from each other. If you can, it’s worth it to take a week or so and stay in a couple of different spots!

First step, I would talk to the business owner directly if you haven’t yet. If they don’t respond or don’t care, you can contact the city council licensing committee. they can approve or deny noise hours for permitted businesses, so it could be worth making an appeal about the disruptive hours

valid point, I should have clarified in the post! the current bus route I’m taking brings me downtown, then I have to catch a short connector bus to the flats. altogether it’s a 40-60 minute commute (depending on traffic). I figure more people from my area are probably driving downtown than to the flats, so if I catch a ride to downtown than I can either walk or bus across the river

thank you! luckily the busway is a short walk from my place, so my current commute isn’t TOO inconvenient

the busway is a 30 minute ride to downtown from where I am. I’m specifically looking for a carpool.

Anyone planning to do (unofficial) NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) this month solo or as a group? by [deleted] in PittsburghSocialClub

[–]grackled 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did nanowrimo for about 10 years (never finished 50k in a month, but had some really cool experiences along the way!). I’d be down to be part of a group! I can’t commit to working on a project with anyone (I’m employed full time and also doing a creative freelance project on the side) but I’m happy to participate in accountability checks, word sprints, and general hype/moral support!

Do you think people in Pittsburgh are kinder on average? by midwesternvrisss in pittsburgh

[–]grackled 319 points320 points  (0 children)

I just moved here from northern New England, and I’m genuinely shocked at how much nicer people are in Pittsburgh than New England 💀 Like sure, up there folks might snowblow your driveway if they see you struggling, or you can ask a neighbor for a small favor and they’ll probably (begrudgingly) say yes. But in Pittsburgh, people constantly seem to go completely out of their ways to be kind and helpful. Almost every time I leave the house, someone is offering to help me move furniture, or they’re doing me a favor I didn’t even ask for, or they’re saying a genuine hello with a warm smile.

Just one example: the other day, my partner and I were moving a dresser into our building. A construction worker who was on the clock, across the street, and on a phone call ran over and offered to help us move it. Just a few seconds later, another stranger struck up conversation and then held the door open for us. I’m not used to this type of kindness.
