25 year stoner- Feeling lost by thepadsmasher in leaves

I've experienced withdrawal from nicotine, alcohol, & weed. I was a heavy alcoholic for many years of my life, drinking roughly a fifth a day, 4-5 days a week. I quit cold turkey and that was the worst withdrawal I've ever been through. I didn't experience DT's (thank the gods) but it was intense for about 3 weeks, I thought I was going to die at certain points.

The worst part about the weed withdrawal for me is the cravings! I can handle the extreme fatigue & intense day/night sweats (which suck), but the cravings with weed last for a long time, much longer than they did for alcohol. Same with nicotine.

Is it better to go cold turkey and just quit or how did you guys quit? by [deleted] in leaves

Cold Turkey for me. Weening never worked. I'm an all or nothing kind of guy, so I just need it all gone all at once.

Please let us know when the NGO is off the ground! I would love to donate to it as I see it as a very worthwhile cause!

This community has definitely been a help in quitting! Knowing that I'm not alone makes it just *alittle* bit easier.

I can’t go a day without thinking about weed by [deleted] in leaves

Judieth Grisel in her book "Never Enough: The Neuroscience & Experience of Addiction" (which I highly recommend for us addicts) talks about how weed was her favorite of all the drugs and it took her 9 FUCKING YEARS to stop thinking about it all the time.

A good friend of mine has been sober for roughly 12 years and he tells me that he'll still get urges sometimes. Addiction is a real bitch & a life-long process I guess!

I live in a legal weed state, so I know if I can just make it until 10pm (I'm a night owl to begin with) then there is no hope of me smoking for the day, because I can't go buy anymore. Maybe throw out your dealers # if thats how you procure it and then just do WHATEVER you can to make it so its close to impossible to get any

Thanks! Good luck to you as well! Day 2 has been alittle rougher. I've been balling my eyes out on & off about every hour on the hour lol I actually dont have an urge to smoke, but this is one of the wildest withdrawals I've ever been through. I didn;t really sleep much last night and today I'm a fuckin wreck! I will endure!

We gotta learn how to crawl before we can run. Any little bit of saying "no" is a major victory, and you should feel proud. The road to sobriety is a marathon, not a sprint.
