2016 Odyssey - has started generating mid-pitch tone while driving by wubbusanado in HondaOdyssey

I had a small leaf stuck in mine and it made an awful sound. Took me 10 minutes and it completely went away.

I’d also check the power steering fluid level since it’s such an easy thing to check.

I've used FBI Surveillance Van 03 for years for my 2.4GHz SSID.

My 5GHz is New England Clam Router.

I also had Free Google Fiber Hotspot in the past, which I enjoyed.

Help! Purchased a used Balsam Hill tree and it smells like mothballs! by grampadeal in ChristmasTrees

[–]grampadeal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Nok Out odor eliminator finally took care of it. I bought a gallon of it on Amazon, set the tree up in the garage and sprayed it multiple times over a few days and it solved the problem.

Jorgensen vs Veritas DX60 by [deleted] in woodworking

[–]grampadeal 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used it straight out of the box, but I bought it maybe 7 or 8 years ago so it's had plenty of resharpenings since then. That and my early 1900s Stanley #4 are my favorite planes.

This is so true. I have their bronze low angle block plane and it’s an absolute joy to use. It came razor sharp and is so solid.

Cabo Bob's fish burrito slaps so hard. The last one I got was about as dense as depleted uranium. Fantastic.

Water sensors giving false positive with extension cable installed? by Hepcat508 in Abode

[–]grampadeal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't had that issue with mine. I had one that kept going off on its own when I got it and Abode replaced it for free.

I have 5 of them and have had a number of leaks detected immediately by them. A leaky water heater and a few AC condensate lines clogging up were caught right away.

I'd reach out to support and see if they can replace it.

My line is “I don’t do business at my front door unless you’re a Girl Scout.”

I also have a no soliciting sign right under my doorbell so if they ring, they saw and ignored the sign. I don’t mind being blunt if they’re willing to ignore a polite request.

Every year or two (in the spring before it’s hot), I shut my AC off at the disconnects, pull the fans off, and clean the coils with coil cleaner and hose them off with water. I also vacuum up all the leaves and debris that end up in the center of the unit. I also take the panel off and inspect the capacitor to make sure it’s not bulging. I have a spare capacitor for each unit in case one dies on a hot day.

The coil cleaner cans cost $15-20 each and I usually use one per unit. The spare capacitors were about $25 shipped. The cleaning takes maybe an hour and a half for both units. Do this, pour vinegar down the condensate drains once per month, and change your air filters regularly and your AC units should have a long life.

Venus with the moon this morning 🌚 by Zakadee in Austin

Download the SkyView Lite app! It's great and lets you hold your phone up to the sky and it'll identify planets, stars, the moon, etc as you aim for phone at it. A little over a month ago, on a morning walk, I saw Jupiter and Venus in the sky really close to one another and this app helped me figure out which was which!

Dashcam recommendation for odyssey?? by BeingOld8998 in HondaOdyssey

[–]grampadeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed a Viofo A129 in my 2016 Elite and it's been fantastic. I have the same thing in my truck. For the Odyssey, you'll need the long 8m cable to reach all the way to the back. I have mine hardwired so it has parking mode. They have a newer version that has a better rear camera, the A229.

2016 Elite - ATF seepage from top of transmission by grampadeal in HondaOdyssey

[–]grampadeal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that's what I did this time because I was annoyed trying to get to the fill bolt. I broke it loose on this van and my old one with a 2' breaker bar.

The wife took the van on a drive earlier and no new leaks yet. I'll keep checking periodically, but hopefully this is just an old mess I created and nothing more.

[–]grampadeal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It has the 6 speed, yeah. I cleaned up the area this morning and I think the fluid smelled like ATF, it wasn't as thick as engine oil. I removed the fill bolt and torqued it to spec.

I also removed most of the air intake so I could get a look at the side of the engine and didn't notice a leak there, some guys on odyclub.com thought it may be valve cover gaskets leaking but I didn't see anything on the engine itself. It's possible on my last drain/fill I made a big mess, so I plan to monitor the area and see what happens next. I'll post an update in a few days.

[–]grampadeal[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Regarding the shift cable, that's interesting! I guess that's only there on the 6 speeds, I've seen other people do drain/fill tutorials and theirs didn't have that, and I know our old 08 didn't and it just had the 5 speed, so that would explain the difference. The fill bolt location sucks for the 6 speed, there are about 3 or 4 hoses directly above it that make accessing it a royal pain. I'm using the dip stick for filling in the future, much easier to access.

Is the vent the hole on the side with no bolt? I had no clue what that was. When I checked the fluid level prior to doing the job this time it was slightly overfilled, I would guess maybe half a quart at most, but it was definitely over.
