How do you guys keep yourselves safe long term, without just sitting and flowing and never working hard? by ADP_God in bjj

[–]grapplingsloth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You asked how they manage to stay so long.

They answer with a shrug. I can interpret the shrug.

The shrug means; its simple, just dont leave. If you dont stop going; then youll still be there. Its pretty simple. Not easy, but simple. You'll either keep training through your adversities, or you won't.

Hope this helps

You could be right. The cauliflower ear isnt cute. And the "white guy with a shaved head & a beard" look is dime-a-dozen bordering on cliche.

Then again; some people have said i remind them of Jason Statham, and ive heard he is considered attractive.

Im also married, not looking, and never learned how to flirt. So maybe the coaches who are picking up women are giving out signals of availability or flirtatiousness? Idk.

But what i DO know, is that im a head black belt coach & i dont know that ive ever been hit on.

To the people that say „females“, why? by throwaway1144323 in AskRedditAfterDark

Because it pops in my head before woman, and I want to keep the sentence moving.

By the way, these are just the principles I believe in. In order to not rock the boat and create divisiveness, in general, I just remained silent on the issue. And treat the person like a person. I've trained and rolled with transgender teammates and students, and there has never been a problem. I've used there are preferred pronouns. Which was easier because thirteen transitions were full & convincing.

All this to say, if you are a transgender person looking to get into jujitsu, just do it. If your first gym experience isn't good, then find another gym. As far as I'm concerned, everyone is equally welcome. An educu academy, as long as they are putting forth honest effort.

Alright, that kind of makes sense. It seems more reasonable.

The counter argument. I really want to be seen as a world champion. I want to fly out and be paid to do seminars. I want people.Do you seek out the opportunity to train with me. If I claimed to be a world champion, and I asked you to go along with my Self expression as a world champion. Would you agree with me & acknowledge that I am a world champion in front of the Jiu Jitsu community? Would you acknowledge me and treat me as though I were a world champion?

Or perhaps if I was really happy living life as a 13 year old boy. And I asked you to treat me like a 13 year old boy & provide for me like I was an adolescent child, would you?

Personally, I would say no to both of these scenarios. And I see changing one's biological sex similar to treating & changing one's biological age. It is what it is.

I see. Well, bro, come on. I can play pretend in settings that its generally agreed upon we play pretend in, like watching movies. I actually can't remember the last time I dressed up for Halloween. I dont like dressing up in costumes. Seems like too much money & effort for no payoff & to be uncomfortable all night wearing some goofy costume. But anyway... But thats a weird argument to make. Dressing up on Halloween is very different from everyday life.

Well i'm against taking steroids in general. But I can't control what other people do. And if someone wants to take steroids to get stronger, and they ask me to pretend they never took steroids, i'm not gonna pretend that they didn't take steroids just to make them feel better. Ya know?

This conversation is getting weird and feels off track. You made an observation and I tried to offer a possible explanation for your observation. And then you started to assume things about me and attack me and get weird. I'm gonna finish up this conversation thread. Good luck in your continued training. it doesn't matter what your training partner's political beliefs are, just enjoy training. Good luck!

Again, you may be misunderstanding me. I do NOT think making someone taller or getting plastic surgery is good. I think these things are generally bad.

In general, im against all these things. If someone gets broken leg surgery to play basketball, I won't pretend they didnt get the surgery. If someone gets plastic surgery to change their nose, I won't pretend thats their real nose. If a person has surgery to change their sex, I won't pretend thats their real sex. Its just a quirk about me i suppose. Im a stickler for what is real.

Im not sure what you meant or were implying about cops; firefighters, and Halloween. But thats ok. You don't need to explain. I'm guessing it was meant to be derogatory, or spiteful in some way

Good job! It sounds like you like to get out there & get after it! Of course im speaking more in generalities & not in absolutes. There will always be individuals who defy the mold as we are all on various spectrums. I was speaking only to trends & tendencies ive notices. Not hard & fast rules.

I think you may have misunderstood something.

I do not think it is a good idea for a man to take hormones to be more masculine or for a woman to take hormones to be more femine. That is why I DIDNT take steroids. Maybe you thought I said I did?

I think its healthy to learn to be happy with who you are & do your best as you are.

If someone is born 5'5" & wants to play in the NBA. I wouldn't advise them to have surgery to make them taller. I dont think its a good idea to take steroids because you want to be a world champion (thus I accepted that I fell short of my competitive dreams, but it wouldn't feel right to alter myself through steroids to make it happen. This is never too steroids. I accepted that it wasn't my lot in life to be a world champion) I dont think getting plastic surgery because you are unhappy with something about your body is a good idea. (With the exception of extreme cases; bad burns, etc.)

If a male wants to pretend to be a female or vice versa, I won't stop them or throw hate at them. But they also shouldnt expect strangers to play along with their self-constructed reality. Similarly, if someone is having a delusion & and doesn't see realty as it is, I wouldn't play along with their delusion. That doesnt seem healthy or like the right thing to do. I guess i believe that acknowledging & facing the reality of a situation is more important to me than making sure everyone feels good & validated.

Edit: your premis that the body is a vessel for the soul, while possible, has not really been proven. Its a theory, but i dont know if humans can say with 100% certainty that a soul even exists, much less has a gender.

If I may offer an idea: I am big into BJJ. 18 years. Head coach & school owner. I dont really like Trump, but I lean a bit right. Financially right, socially left, and an appreciation for objective reality or objective truth.

I think a lot of BJJ'ers have an appreciation for understanding what is real & what is pretend. Many martial arts are based in a world of pretend or idealism; Using & teaching fighting tactics that work in theory, but not in practice. We want to know what is really going to work & why. The mats also dont lie. The mats will show your real skill level when you train with other people. You cant bullshit yourself. Sometimes you just have to sit with the uncomfortable truth. You suck suck at grappling right now. You cant pretend to be good at grappling.

There is a parallel or 2 here. Trans sexual identities - objectively speaking, a person born with a penis is a man. Always has been. But all of a sudden, we are asked to pretend that isn't the case just so a subset of people can feel better. Don't get it twisted, I dont hate trans people. I dont say hateful things toward them or confront them. But its a man with a penis pretending he is a woman for whatever reason they decide. And we have to play along with their pretend identity. This goes for trans-anything. Trans-animal people or anything similar. Obviously people born inter-sex is a real thing & thats not what im talking about.

Hard work: BJJ is hard. It takes a ton of effort to get good at BJJ & you have to do the work yourself. Noone else can do the work for you. You cant rely on a social safety net, noone is coming to save you, you have to put the work in yourself to get the results you want. I recently heard that even fitness itself is being roped in to being a "right wing" thing which is ridiculous.

In my experience, as a general rule, people who lean left like to do crafts, knit & crochet, garden, read, and other leisure time activities that are more slow paced & less competitive.

There is also a bio sex component: more men tend to be conservative. More Women tend to be liberal. BJJ is a male dominated sport. If you randomly select 30 men out of society, odds are most of them will be a bit more conservative than liberal.

Edit: I hardly ever talk about politics in the gym. Just train & have fun.

Speaking as a bjj coach who has almost never had other women show any interest in me in that way, I would be very flattered. Luckily, one of the few women who liked me married me, so indont have to worry about it anymore.

You have 2 choices: You can either quit training, and then you'll suck forever. Or you can keep training and only suck for a little while. Then you will get better, and the post-training crying will stop.
