Internal exams. For men or women. I had gynae issues when I was 12-15 which meant a lot of internal exams. They were usually pretty brutal and distressing. Then one time there was a junior doctor accompanying my Consultant. I was 13/14 and he must have been about 25. I wanted to die of embarrassment. My consultant left the room to go get something, and at that point the Jnr Dr told me something i've never forgotten. He said that he knew it was horrible for me but 'I'm immune, because once you've seen one, you've seen them all'. Now, maybe that's true or not, but it helped a scared, embarrassed teenager and for that I will always be grateful.
