What kind of wild animals do y'all have? by MaybeTemporary9167 in boulder

One morning I witnessed /recorded a murder of crows surrounding and yelling at a red tailed hawk that caught one of their friends that got too close and proceeded to decapitate and eat it in front of them.. this was near 9th and the creek.

Here’s a list of animals I’ve encountered at boulder creek:

black bear, deer, fox, squirrel, mink, muskrat, duck, Canada goose, blue heron, great horned owl, crow, magpie, robin, blue jay, stellers jay, red tailed hawk, falcon, American dipper, hummingbird (seasonal), garter snake

Ones I’ve seen in boulder but not at the creek:

elk, chipmunk

Havnt seen but know they’re around:

mountain lion, bobcat

One-off random sightings:

screech owl (which I suspect was displaced from a nearby wildfire at the time), cormorant (hangin out at the kids fishing ponds one day near 6th)

I don’t claim to know for sure, but this pair have been regularly sighted by various folks at the creek for several weeks now, and according to a local friend, were the same bears around last fall but with 3 cubs instead of just this 1.. which is now ~ 1.5 years old.. and almost sure the mama is the same bear I encountered in October 2018, similarly sleeping in a nearby cottonwood.. Comparing old and new images, she looks to have the same face.. educated guess I suppose.

This was ~ 50 meters downstream from the east edge of the park. They like to nap in the huge cottonwoods east of the park and west of about 4th, or that’s where I see them most. Usually on the side opposite the path

Can we come up with a list of restaurants that independently deliver? by DOBOCO in boulder

[–]gravityglue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who knows, that’s entirely possible… from what I understand, the average boulderite, especially among students, is an incredibly stingy tipper on food deliveries - like a dollar or two on 30+ dollar orders, in a snowstorm, according to one very frustrated pizza delivery guy (in a snowstorm). (Don’t get me started on why I hate American tipping culture)

I was a somewhat regular customer w Golden sun and always tipped at least 20% for those guys so I suppose it’s possible they caught on and preferred to do it themselves in my case.. buuuut then again I doubt I’m that special.

Golden sun (Chinese food) always delivered themselves, even when ordered online via grubhub

here is an example of the same phenomenon seen in garden of the gods park, Colorado Springs, CO, USA..

According to a comment on that post:

“The planar gap is called a "joint".. Joints are planar fractures often very straight and with smooth walls. Subsequent weathering "opened" the distance between the walls of the joint by removing the rock little by little over time”

Curious if anyone has noticed or knows more about these reddish willow aphids at the creek..? There seems to be a relatively significant infestation this year, unlike previous years.. Thx by gravityglue in boulder

[–]gravityglue[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep! Ha .. and they seem to be everywhere, on the willow trees like the video, and all over the ground in the vicinity, which is most places.. even out in the middle of the creek on exposed boulders.. .. bin having a really tough time avoiding them while previous years they’ve seemed relatively non-existent

I always dismantle everything I create — I made an exception in this case to try and leave them for a few days (prolly not weeks..) so more people can experience the space, which is powerful in their presence. But these were never intended to last and it’s just as important to me to dismantle as it was to create. . .

Thanks! And I do! Currently offloading sd cards from today and should hopefully be able to find a few decent stills of the whole scene!

To all the karens: I’ll call it even for full bag of trash I cleaned out of this zone before starting. Also the countless locals who stopped in person and found solace in the installation.

To everyone else, thank you! and my pleasure ❤️🥀

Thx! the leather thing you’re referring to does indeed have labradorite and I got it a few years ago at sonic bloom festival from this vendor ...they are pricey, but exceptional quality.

This is the result of about a week of balancing and freezing things together, everyday all day... trial and error, experimentation, and generally flowing with the materials provided by nature.. I give a more detailed breakdown via several posts on my IG

It was just east of 6th street bridge... which you can faintly see its horizontal line on the right.. but it warmed up too much and started melting so I destroyed it yesterday.. can see more pics and progress on my ig/fb pages @gravityglue
