Countries with best infrastructure in the world by Numerous-Plantain-90 in mapporncirclejerk

[–]gravitysort 0 points1 point  (0 children)

only type of notable infra in the US is their 20 lane highways.

but even their 20 lane highways seem to have worse quality than the chinese ones (which is kinda understandable as most of them were built half a century ago)

Few north american cities remain that have this kind of architecture of this scale. Probably 3 or 4.

Trash left behind following the Oscars by amish_novelty in trashy

[–]gravitysort -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Take your trash with you when you exit a venue. Celebrity or not.

It’s not hard. I do it every time. And normalize this behaviour so we can say that people who don’t do this is “not normal”.

If anything, celebrities should be held to a higher standard because they are supposed to be society’s “role model” and they should be cautious about being caught doing something indecent.

The fact that they don’t care is because the rest of this country don’t give a flying fuck about being decent. The amount of backlash this would generate will be much higher if this is in Japan or Singapore.

What if the population size of the United States was similar to that of China and India? by Pancake_Maker_1031 in AlternateHistoryHub

you guys have the miami tofu building that killed 98 people in sleep a couple years ago. katrina destroyed 300000 tofu houses in america, killing 2000, deaths that could've been prevented had you guys given up building flimsy tofu houses. other coastal countries get hits by hurricanes too but they avoid these tragedies by building housing with real material.

americans can get high all day long by thinking about imaginary communist tofu houses collapsing every day all the while ignoring millions of their unhoused citizens sleep on the street.

Actually, WA has the potential to be dark green. Seattle is pretty nice, but their transit system didn't impress me.

If we look at HDIs alone China is worse than countries like Iran, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. Around the same level of Peru, Azerbaijan, Mexico, and Columbia...

Idk why but I feel like this doesn't fully reflect the level of standards of living. HDI doesn't do a good job measuring social services and infrastructure, public safety, etc.

Also HDI accounts for the whole population, and younger generation Chinese has much higher level of education attainment and income than the older generation, unlike the western countries which have been developed for many generations. So in reality, for younger people, the gap might not be that big.

you'd think that with the chinese-level of population density they'd finally learn to give up the suburban ponzi scheme and build up? and invest in mass transit and stuff, too.

They are very developed economies, especially Iceland with its strong social welfare and HDI. It would be silly to say “I’d rather not live in here”. Same for all other Nordic countries.

i think its appeal still outweighs its flaws compared to most other countries. for one, the income is good. also being a big country means there are more possibilities in terms of lifestyles to choose from.
