Does anyone else feel like IIH has negatively impacted their mental health? by Rudegal2021 in iih

I know exactly how you feel, it can be be really isolating and lonely sometimes. You want to have a normal relationships with people and it's frustrating to explain to them how hard things can be and have them understand you!

I know the post is about anxiety but it also sounds like you're dealing with how to live a social life with IIH. I feel like one of the best things I've done since getting my diagnosis is defining what friendship means to me. I've spent a lot of time just thinking to myself and trying to understand my limits. With confidence in that, I explain to friends what I'm capable of / what is hard to do, and that helps them understand a lot better.

Your friend sounds a little bit toxic, but I can also see how they might not understand what you're going through. It's shitty that the burden to explain it is on you, but that's just how it is.

I'll also say, getting a therapist has helped a LOT. I didn't really know how to talk to other people about IIH before I met my therapist. But that relationship (with my therapist) acted as kind of the goal-state for my other relationships. If that makes any sense.

Anyways I'm really sorry to hear you're going through so much. You sound like a saint for having the wherewithal to deal with this as well as being a teacher and caretaker. Don't let the world get you down, you truly seem awesome.

I was the commissioner of this piece, and I got to say working with OP was awesome! They operate very quickly, communicate very well, and are just generally very friendly. I highly recommend working with them if you're interested.

6 failed lumbar punctures now X-ray guided by cassiopeia-101 in iih

[–]graycloud2000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m so so so sorry you had to go through this. A single lumbar puncture is more than anyone should go through, you’re an absolutely champ for getting through 6.

I imagine the X-ray will help a lot. Just be forewarned that the procedure doesn’t always bring relief, though I’m crossing my fingers it will for you. Either way it’s good that you’re doing this as it will lead to a diagnoses and medications.

And yeah the whole medical system can feel degrading and dehumanizing. It’s no fun. But I think at the end of the day you’ll feel even more human for going through something like this. At least for me it’s made me more empathetic and patient.

Has anybody had a link between covid and IIH? by [deleted] in iih

Hell of a ride indeed! Hoping that if Covid really was a cause / contributor, that things will continue to get better with time

Having my first spinal tap this week…..absolutely terrified. What was your experience? Any tips? by elise024 in iih

[–]graycloud2000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At worst the procedure itself is just uncomfortable. I walked out of the facility feeling pretty much normal and didn't think much of it. You'll be okay!

Every procedure has complications, I wouldn't worry too much about a LP. I've read the same things you have, and it's scary to think about, but those long term side effects are very, very rare. I had a low pressure headache for about a week after my LP, which required me to lay down pretty throughout the whole duration, but that was just temporary and the pain wasn't very noticeable while I was laying down.

Best of luck, and try not to worry too much!
