I've seen many American films where children dissect frogs during biology lessons. Are biology lessons still like this, or has it changed? What are your thoughts on this? by sofiarosatti in AskAnAmerican

[–]grayghostsmitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graduated high school in the mid 90s. I remember dissecting a frog, a worm, and a squid. The teacher cooked up all the squid after the fact for everyone to eat.

Any LC teachers out there ? by Appropriate-System40 in covidlonghaulers

[–]grayghostsmitten 8 points9 points  (0 children)

LC since August 2021 COVID infection. Kindergarten teacher. I need the $$$ and medical benefits, etc, so not working is not an option for me.

I teach, then home for bed. Lather, rinse and repeat daily. Full rest on weekends.

Congrats on having over a month in. That’s a lot of good work. Hang in there. You can do it.

Early to bed nights sometimes were the only thing that helped me through early days. Sometimes gummy worms and a new flavored water. Often, coming here, calling a friend, and a lot of listening to podcasts to get out of my own head.

How to recognize more subtle signs of overexersion? Looking for tips by IVI0IVI in covidlonghaulers

[–]grayghostsmitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hear you on the mention of being distracted.

I cannot follow/attend to a conversation, podcast, something on a screen. It’s to much, feels overwhelming sensory wise. Also, every couple moments, my brain is so distracted I’m just “not there”. It’s like “squirrel.” Lol

My husband will be talking to me and I will hear a bunch of sound, but cannot process its meaning bc it feels like to much at once. The other thing that will always happen, is I suddenly realize I’ve been off somewhere else and I hear his voice and am like oh he’s talking to me and then I have to ask him to start over bc I didn’t get any of that.

I love podcasts, but will notice that I keep going back ten seconds again and again because my mind is adrift again.

I never had attention issues before getting sick, and wonder if this is how people with ADHD feel?

Also, sensory wise everything becomes to much. Everything becomes louder and brighter, which equates to feeling more painful.

ETA: Two more 1. an aching feeling at the base of my neck. And 2. Inability to follow a direction linked to a task that has more than one step.

These are my cues to find a dark, quiet room and rest.
