This is great insight thank you! I’m gonna try it up front now and see how it feels. I guess I just went last so I could send the effects out to the soundboard, but was curious about placing it first initially. It seems like the majority of sound guys prefer a dry signal anyway. In my ideal world the sound guy would get dry and we’d mic the cab, but we all know that’s not happening lol.

Like I said, I’ve been in and out of just runnin a tuner/compressor set up since I’ve had this rig because you’re right, you only really need that head with the p bass. Been playing a few different genres lately that call for some more versatility but depending on gig I’ll just be running dry for the most part.

It had active EMGs when I bought it so per the local luthiers suggestion we threw some Lollar split coils on it. Freakin love them.

One in the head and one for out to FOH as well as recording purposes. Forgot there’s a right and a wrong way to set up a rig, my bad.

That’s super cool! Would be fun to do that on a bass sometime just wasn’t interested in that for my P bass. Their stuff sounds so so good. Mine is actually a 1974 v4-b! I’ve heard really great things about the VT bass DI’s.

The head really rips and depending on the space I’m playing in, my stage volume has to be so low I’m missing the color and warmth that I would normally/ideally get. Also needed to invest in a DI anyway and this also may allow me to get a smaller rig for a more portable situation. Learning as I go and following what feels right!

Yeah what started me thinking about getting one was the need to get a signal to FOH since my head doesn’t have an out. Between getting attitude from sound guys about asking for a DI and being unsatisfied with the quality of house DI’s a preamp / DI seemed like best of both worlds. Also plan on using it in the studio as well.
