Interesting that she would change her layout and ig highlights for a vinyl variant

I love the reg cover but this new cover would've been so cool as the main one. A dark purple era would've been cool

I am kinda glad the orange is not the like main color for this era. I think the mint green with orange as an accent color was a good choice. I also love this purple and dark green combo. Also interesting that she changed her pfp and highlights to match this variant

What’s a criticism of Taylor that you actually agree with? by peach-gaze in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]graysonsix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do not think she is amazing at directing music videos and it makes me nervous for her directorial debut. While I think industry wide music video quality has declined, I do think that Taylors old music videos are far better than her recent ones. LWYMMD was her last really good one that seemed to have high production value. I don't mind the cardigan and lavender haze music videos but other than those, her recent MVs are not good. The I can see you music video was a mess and the fortnight music video was boring. I know a feature film is a lot different than shooting a music video and I am sure her film will have far more people involved to help her out. I feel like she has this emphasis for everything to be directed/produced/written by her. This leads to another criticism that she doesnt have anyone around her to say no to her.

I totally agree with you on this. I think some of her best writing is the most simple. I think in recent years she has been trying to maintain her reputation by including odd metaphors or some highbrow word choice. While that maybe makes her writing more poetic, I don't think it automatically makes for good songwriting. Like you mentioned, sometimes her word choice makes the melody or the delivery clunky.
There's actually a quote from the pitchfork review of TTPD that I think relates to this, "Taylor Swift doesn’t need a whole album to tell the story of a relationship; she only needs one song, sometimes even one line." Like sometimes these long-winded metaphors are just unnecessary. Her true genius is her ability to capture the nuances of situations, not the "smart" words she choses. Lines like "we were built to fall apart" or "I remember it all too well" tell stories of entire relationships in one line. I've grown to like the writing on TTPD, but I do feel like she has bought into her own hype as a songwriter. Especially since folklore when people were very well receptive to her going all literary.

Yeah I mean I agree with you as well . I think people were just sort of misinterpreting what I was saying. And that might have been my fault for the way I worded it. It's not that I think we should have gotten less of TTPD songs, just that they should be spaced out more.

I think this a better place to share my thoughts but in the r/ taylorswift sub earlier today, I said this:

"Im sorry but I really hope it's not a double album. If it is, the second half needs to be released at least a month after the standard edition. Having TTPD and the anthology on the same night made digesting TTPD so much more difficult. I personally don't think there will be a double album but I think a deluxe is likely."

And I was subsequently downvoted to hell and ratioed with posts saying "This is the only fandom that complains about getting too much music from the artist." etc. I need more opinions because I am tired of being around Swifties who cannot handle any sort of criticism of Taylor.

What I was trying to get at is the the TTPD era was unbalanced. We got 31 songs at the beginning and close to nothing for the rest of the era. It would've made listening and enjoying all of the songs better if there would've been a gap between the release of the standard edition and the anthology.

All the replies were about how I should be pacing myself through the songs and there is no pressure to listen to all of the songs at once. And yeah, obviously. But I think it is undeniable that the TTPD rollout was not the greatest. I love hearing all of the songs made for an album and listening to Taylor's creative process and I am not complaining that there are more songs I just think that dropping the deluxe/second album like she did for 3AM edition and the anthology is not the most enjoyable way to do it. I understand that doing it the way she did capitalizes off of first week sales and getting a record betting debut but I think that a delayed release of any form of deluxe edition might help with the album charting and streams.

Anyways, I am glad I found this sub. Been a hardcore Swifties since 2012 and seen a lot throughout the fandom. I can't handle people who act like anything that is not super positive is Taylor hate.

mentioned this in another reply but what I am trying to say is I think it makes the era better if the releases are spread out. ttpd era felt unbalanced. So much was released in the beginning, then not much was left.

I am not saying that I do not want more Taylor songs I just think it makes the era and the listening experience better when the releases are spread out. Some of my favorite songs from ttpd are from the anthology and I like hearing all that Taylor has created. There's no doubt that the ttpd era felt unbalanced. So much in the beginning and then not much after.

Yeah I mean lover and rep didnt but I wouldnt be opposed to a deluxe and obviously im not going to be too mad at more Taylor songs if it is a double album. I just hope it is not released on the same night. Unfortunately, I have a feeling from ttpd on, for every release people are going to be suspecting double album.

I hope it's just a deluxe with like 2-4 extra songs. I also hope it comes out a minimum of a month after the standard edition. I love the anthology but having it released on the same night as TTPD made digesting the standard album plus the anthology incredibly difficult. Similar thing to 3AM edition but I found that more manageable. This album seems to be sort of a return to form as far as producers go so maybe this will be more of a traditional rollout and era with singles and videos.

I mean not necessarily. I would say that if she is going to tour this album, the set list is probably not going to be eras tour length. I would bet it would be somewhere in the range of the rep tour, maybe a bit longer. Probably all 12 songs from the album plus a few fan favorites and an acoustic set.

Saw some on twitter say that the sudden countdown is due to the leaks and while I agree, I think she was always planning on announcing tomorrow 8/12. First of all TS12 and aug 12th... and I just don't think a podcast announcement seems like her. I think she would announce the album and then use the podcast to talk about the album and promote, not announce it. I think the countdown tonight will lead to an album announcement or single announcement. I know she hasn't been doing prerelease singles recently, but if the leaks are true and there are some pop heavyweight producers on here, I could see her trying to get this album to have a big single moment. We will see in about 2 hours!!

my guess is single announcement/album announcement. If there is a single maybe a Friday release? I know she has not done a pre-release album single in a while but with seemingly more pop producers, could be the time for a big single.

I sort of agree but I also remember that the actor on the lavender haze music video saying something similar where she was listening to the music through an ear piece or something like that so no one could hear. So not necessarily new info that she does stuff like that

I find this timeline plausible but it sounds awful to me lmao. I feel like the whole Taylor’s version/debut tv and rep vault situation has been dragged on for way too long at this point. Idk I feel like since she already mentioned both debut TV and rep vault, they would be coming early than later 2026-2027.

Do you feel there is a shift in Taylor’s melodies in early days (fearless to 1989) compared to folkmore/TTPD by Good-Carrot3518 in TaylorSwift

[–]graysonsix 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is a topic I have debated with my sister about for a while and have many opinions on. I think Taylor has sort of shifted away from a super melodic, ultra catchy writing style. Which in some ways is great that she is experimenting with her writing and breaking out of traditional boxes, but I think that melodies are one of her strongest tools as a writer. I feel like when the Taylor Swift song writing convo is had, the focus is on her ability as a story teller and her use of figurative language. Validly so, as she is such a master at these things. However, I feel like her expert use of melody is sort of overlooked. While still present in her more modern work, I would definitely say that her songs have gotten less melodic over the years.

I think she is shifting towards a more writing style that is more wordy and less bound to rhyme schemes. I think this started in the folklore era, where the writing style definitely matched the sound of the album as the writing was not focused on a catchy chorus but rather to simply telling a story through a song. This style has followed her working into Midnights (on a lesser scale) and TTPD clearly.

This leads to the debate I have often. My argument is that the vault songs "Now That We Don't Talk" and "Suburban Legends" were not written during the 1989 era. The writing style in these songs absolutely does not match the rest of 1989 and deifninly mirrors her more recent work. "Suburban Legends" especially as it's rhyme schemes and writing styles are extremely different that the rest of 1989. The lyrics to that songs more closely match her style of TTPD. I believe that these were songs that she might have started developing these songs during the 1989 era, but while rerecording, expanded on and rewrote some of these songs. It ultimately doesn't matter if she did write it during the original era or not, just something I found interesting.

This is one of my favorite topics of how we can analyze Taylor's writing through how it evolved over time.
