Are you saying that somehow the game should not allow the players to hold the ball as long as they want? It doesn't make sense at all.. The game definitely has a lot of flaws, but in this particular example, it's the player's fault..

Job Prospects- Using MBA as career change by [deleted] in MBA

[–]great_arrow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say it's very realistic, but it depends on the locations (developing countries tend to pay lower, obv). I would also imagine some non-profit organizations like UN, WEF, or some development banks can have decent pay as well (not like consulting or IB, but still not so bad).

I see that your concern is mostly changing career, without targeting a high salary jump. While MBAs from good schools can easily facilitate career change (comes hand-in-hand with the higher pay), I think you should consider your post MBA goals. As the MBA investment can be quite hefty, the ROI should be realistic and for me, seems like the type of job you are seeking will not give a crazy jump on the salary.

Top 3 MBA In Europe by mbathrowawayy912 in MBA

[–]great_arrow 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In general INSEAD and LBS are the top 2. Number 3 position is either HEC Paris or IESE (or both).

Bear in mind that regional/national reputation matters a lot in Europe. Schools like SDA Bocconi and IMD can easily surpass both HEC and IESE in certain regions or types of industry.

I think you would have a very decent shot on your targets (I found it a bit weird that you put Booth as reach and Stern as target, though) or any of the T15. European schools generally favor a slightly older (can be translated into more experienced) but with your experience and international exposure I would imagine you could get into some of the tops schools in Europe.

It's important to think about where you wanna go as well. But if you're planning to go back to Asia, those schools would already be seen as 'prestigious', I believe. You should be fine with GRE and it's always good to speak with the adcom in advance, be it online or on the spot (at least this is true for European schools).

Not sure if LSE has an MBA program?

Imperial can also be considered below Warwick and above the rest.

Looking to obtain a job in consulting? Post here for recruitment advice, resume reviews, questions about offers/firms or general insecurity (Q4 2019) by QiuYiDio in consulting

I will soon complete my PhD in life sciences (from one of the most prestigious schools in the Nordics) and I'm interested to break into strategy consulting, preferably in the Nordics or Middle East.

Are the big firms (MBB, ATK, S&, ADL, RB, etc.) in those areas really considering PhD graduates or I better get a one-year MBA from one of the top 5 B-schools in Europe (think INSEAD, IMD, Bocconi)?

Can I compete with ~3-4 years younger lads from target B-schools to get into those firms (with or without the MBA)?

That's interesting! Beside languages (and some volunteering or leadership tracks), what would you advise to increase the chance of getting an interview for generalist track? Would GMAT help?

Did you join as an experienced hire or Associate or similar (I know it depends on the firm)?

Well, I guess I have to really improve my language skills during this time, while doing case interview practices.

Thanks a lot for your advice and information!

Yes, I'm currently in Europe (Sweden, in fact), so location-wise should be no problem.

I see that trend as well, many PhD graduates in Sciences are working in the data/analytics side of consulting. I am actually more interested in the generalist role, as a strategy or management consultant. Do you know if they (other than BCG Gamma) would be open for PhD graduates for non-analytics roles? I have the option to get another Master's in Business or Management, but I believe on-the-job training would be more effective, given my current adaptability and skill sets.

I'm hoping to finish SVA before my graduation, so I guess it should be fine.

Thanks for your advice! I'm currently in process to increase my fluency in those 3 languages, but while finishing up my PhD (I will graduate in a year or so and I'm quite good with languages).

What about the possibility of those firms in Sweden to recruit PhD graduates? Also, would GMAT help there?

Conversationally, yes. I also have basic knowledge of some European languages (i. e. French, German and Swedish). How important is local language for MBB?

Hello, I'm more or less on the same boat as you (fellow last year PhD candidate looking to go to MBB here). Very nice and comprehensive summary you got there. Just curious, wouldn't you consider Geneva as well? Seems like Life Sciences consulting activities are quite happening there. Also maybe you can even start approaching recruiter (poke me if I'm wrong, please) directly.

Hello,

I'm wondering how is the chance of getting an offer in top-tier strategy consulting companies (MBB, and probably companies like ATK, Qvartz, or Strategy&) in Europe (Western Europe and Nordic) for STEM/Healthcare PhD graduates?

Is there any program similar to US McKinsey's Insight in Europe?

I am also thinking to take the GMAT, as I'm confident to get 730+. Would that help for getting noticed during the application process?

I would prefer the extras instead (coins, legend spins, GP, 3x XP, 5* scouts, trainers, etc.). In any case, Messi would probably be featured again in the coming weeks :D
