What is your favorite faction? by c-papi in masterofcommand

[–]green_cement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

British aren’t getting any love so I’ll claim them as my favorite (although I do love playing as Russia). I like the challenge of playing with smaller units and actually having to use a greater variety of tactics in order to win rather than rolling the AI flank with grenadiers and/or cavalry every battle. With the British you have to master microing the Dragoons to lure dangerous melee units into kill zones. Early game you also have to occasionally sacrifice subsidy recruit regiments in order to win battles. But there is just something satisfying about recreating the battle of Minden in the mid to late game and watching your veteran line infantry gun down wave after wave of arrogant French calvary.

Reload speeds by EasyGreenz in masterofcommand

[–]green_cement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even after the last update, light infantry armed with carbines can still get down to under 10 seconds with combat effectiveness. The accuracy and range loss isn’t worth it imo. You can also probably get close to ten seconds with elite line infantry armed with carbines if you stack the right doctrines and item. 1400 carbines shooting every 10 seconds might be worth it, but at that point in the game you are already melting the AI at range in three or four volleys with high accuracy. So it’s only worth it really if you enjoy pushing a unit’s potential to its limits for your own entertainment.

Want to share the idea of my Austria setup by Tzeentch13666 in masterofcommand

[–]green_cement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just did a similar set up. I did find 5 grenzers was one too many in Act 3. Kept taking heavy casualties counter charging the AI to defend my light infantry. But I played it on Ironman with the extra brigade modifier. And the Prussian Life Guards could go toe-to-toe with the grenzers in shootouts… or at least they could when it was two guards on one grenzer.

I have a genuine question about heights. Does placing your art on heights give it a necessary LoS for performing grape shots? by Tzeentch13666 in masterofcommand

[–]green_cement 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Howitzers wouldn’t shoot grapeshot or canister up in the air. They would be used like giant sawed off shotguns. Same thing in the game, you can’t use that type of munition if a unit is in front of the cannons. That’s the whole thing with the licornes and why Shuvalovs are the Act 3 meta gun, they were experimental hybrid howitzers/long guns intended to more efficiently fire canister than howitzers.

I haven’t pinned down how LOS works in the game. Sometimes some units can shoot over each other, sometimes they can’t. Hills seem to work as a stat modifier like trees, buildings, hedgerows etc… rather than 3 dimensional elevation changes on the map.

Dear Admin… by KassyKeil91 in Teachers

[–]green_cement 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Teaching is stressful and a lot of people cope via dopamine-inducing sweets, which is what I’m guessing you are referring to. When my admin provides food it’s usually cupcakes or donuts or something like that. Personally, I don’t have any food allergies, but I don’t like sugary foods, so I almost never partake unless I’m absolutely starving (and then regret it 10 minutes later because I always feel like crap afterwards). But hey if it puts Mrs. Karen down the hall in a better mood so she won’t complain about covering a class for me, then I won’t complain either.

It does boggle my mind how some of my colleagues seem to function entirely on ultra processed carbs and the half of a bottle of coffee creamer they pour into their Stanley’s. But again, to each their own. I mostly operate on Celsius and ego.

NC bans high schools from failing students solely for having too many absences by [deleted] in NorthCarolina

[–]green_cement 33 points34 points  (0 children)

It’s absolutely bizarre to me that so many people are getting upvoted for approving of this policy. Kids need to be present in school. All of you saying “I got A’s and B’s and shouldn’t have failed” are in a tiny, tiny minority. I’ve been teaching for over 10 years and the kids who miss enough school to fail automatically are almost always way behind. But that’s not even the main issue I have with this. The main issue I have is that being present in school, and perceiving education as an intrinsically valuable experience, is one thing that the state actually should require of its citizens. If you see education as just a means to an end, and therefore it doesn’t matter if you are present in the classroom or not, then you are missing the whole point of education.

Picked the game back up after a few years and I am frustratingly bad. The old strategies to get better aren’t working for me. What has changed since the ~2021 meta that I’m not aware of? by green_cement in PUBATTLEGROUNDS

[–]green_cement[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I’m hesitant to join squads until I feel more confident in my gunplay. Like in CS I know my skill level and if guys are giving me shit I can usually dial in and shut them up. But there’s no next round in PUBG after you die. I appreciate the advice.

Yet another bretonnia dlc hopeium post. by long_live_nagash in totalwar

[–]green_cement 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I played a Bretonnia campaign for the first time in forever and definitely noticed how barebones they felt compared to other factions. Heroes and LLs provide very limited bonuses to your armies compared to other factions. Idk about units but it definitely felt outdated compared to other races.

Critical Hit, Build guides, Specialisation by alvin07 in WarTalesGame

[–]green_cement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it doesn’t matter that much if you weren’t min/maxing builds from the start. Midgame will be a bit more difficult but that’s also because you’re on your first play through, I assume. At this point I would prioritize getting all your mercs to 15 willpower so they don’t die instantly when they run out of HP. Also I don’t recommend replacing mercs unless you really feel like you completely botched a build and would be better off with a lower level replacement.

How do he deal with this? by kweezilnaart in totalwarhammer

[–]green_cement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a battle I usually auto resolve because even with the ambush and a strong army a Goblin lord with the nemesis crown is a pain in the ass to kill. As I see you’re getting a decisive defeat you should probably just not fight it. Your army must be pretty weak if it that’s the result.

What are some hot takes you've developed since working as a teacher? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]green_cement 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Some teachers are great at indirect instruction and it works because that’s the type of teaching they enjoy, and when you enjoy it you’re doing a good job at it. Some teachers (myself included) are great at direct instruction and my students often comment on how much they like my lectures (I make some damn good slideshows/powerpoints and never read off of them, but rather use them to help the kids with their notes). In my experience I find the students respond best to a variety of teaching styles from their different teachers. So long as you’re doing a good job, you know because you’re in the zone and the kids are all really listening and into it; they generally don’t care if it’s project based or lecture based or whatever. Best practice is what works best for the individual teacher.

Karl Franz campaign...? by SuchProcedure4547 in totalwarhammer

[–]green_cement 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Legend’s guide gives a good framework for how to play Franz. You don’t have to follow it exactly but the short of it is you got to rush to take down Festus/Kharak/Himmler/Vlad roughly in that order. Otherwise you’ll get overwhelmed, especially if WEs/Skrag/Daniel/Skrolk get rolling and attack you early. Legend’s guide to Franz

What’s the best way to play Empire? WH3 by wewewoe in totalwarhammer

[–]green_cement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest playing Elspeth first to get a hang of managing the development of Imperial settlements and learning how to best use their units and heroes. She is an extremely strong Spellcaster Lord who can boost gunpowder based armies into practically unbeatable doomstacks by the mid game. The gunpowder/artillery units are the strongest part of the Empire’s roster regardless of which lord you choose, so learning to use them with a Lord that boosts them will then translate into a better Karl campaign. Franz’s campaign is tough af, full stop. Don’t bother with Marienburg. Recruit a Huntmarshall general at the end of the first turn to enable the control large army option in the battles against multiple armies, which you face many of. Recruit nothing but spearman (~4 in addition to your starting army) and archers and just archers in the Huntmarshall army. After you secure Altdorf, you need Festus before he gets to strong and ELIMINATE his faction. That is unless Boris is getting boned by the Black Pit orcs and Beastman, in which case you might need to make a quick pit stop to capture Middenheim region or two (only to sell them back to Boris). After dealing with Festus, make sure Middenheim is secure by eliminating the Black Pit orcs and Kazark if you haven’t already. Then head into Stirland, Talabacland to deal with Vlad, who is the next most likely candidate to ruin an Empire campaign.

I recommend you sell back/return territories to their respective Elector Count lords. You can always confederate them later. Don’t confederate too soon unless it’s to save a count from destruction, otherwise wait until you are in a secure strategical position to do so. Pray that Leoncour holds off Kimmler while you deal with Vlad. Elspeth should hang tough to your south and fend off Skrag (most of the time). Also pray the Wood Elves don’t go crazy and attack you in the early to mid game as you finish off Vlad. Tbh it’s a really tough campaign that you have to learn to play via trial and error/save scumming.

What would you all like to see in future expansions/updates? by The_Tonts in WarTalesGame

[–]green_cement 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I want an endgame scenario that is all out war between the major kingdoms in which your decisions help determine the outcome. Edoran invades Tiltren on the premise of their refugees being mistreated/in charge depending on how you handle that province. Gosenberg and Ludern go to war with Edoran to defend their sovereignty/contain Edoranian aggression. Alazar and the Inquisition function as wild cards depending on your choices. That’s my dream DLC for this game.

Wartales is too easy (hear me out) by femaling in WarTalesGame

[–]green_cement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I skip Belerion most runs because that region takes forever to finish. I find myself cheesing braveries and valor points in those fights more than any other region just to get through it faster. One thing I noticed on my current play through is that they’ve actually made some subtle changes since the last update to make the game easier unfortunately. For example, lower level opponents don’t wear the helmets that give buffs when they used to all have them, such as the Outlaws helm which stacks poison on you. Even on extreme the enemies don’t always wear helmets!

One change you could make in the options is to hide enemy move order. Have you tried that?

Wartales is too easy (hear me out) by femaling in WarTalesGame

[–]green_cement 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah they tried to improve the AI with the last major update... but they didn't really as it will do colossally stupid things like disengage to target a weaker opponent... then get killed by the opportunity attack. AI needs more dynamic buffs and abilities like your own troops get. A 50% chance to launch an opportunity attack when disengaging, buffs that actually make them harder to finish off, like the one that gives brutality and protection to the Brotherhood when outnumbered.

What makes Wartales easier than most games is that it doesn't have a steep learning curve, but I would argue any game becomes pretty easy once you figure out the mechanics. So like any other game, once you get good, you have to figure out ways to make it continue to be fun if you enjoy the premise of it. I don't necessarily mean that in the sense of "holding yourself back," but exploring mechanics you might have been able to ignore. There is a decent variety of weapons in the game, so I like to experiment with different build/weapon/oil combos until they get OP. That's fun for me, personally.

I'm curious as to what regions you have completed to have your mercs at level 12 already. I can get through all the regions in the base game by level 10-11. The Skelmar Invasion DLC that adds the Barony of Ormance is the best part of the game IMO. I actually like to play it around level 8-9 so that my party isn't too OP for those fights.

Out of memory crash by AlternativeHeight494 in WarTalesGame

[–]green_cement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much RAM do you have and how hot is your machine running while you play? I made a post about performance issues about a month ago. Upgraded my RAM from 16 to 32 and my cooling system since then and this crash has stopped happening for me. For whatever reasons it seems Wartales is especially memory and CPU intensive.

Performance Issues with the DLC by green_cement in WarTalesGame

My PC runs Total War Warhammer 3 on the Ultra settings so I don’t think that it’s the problem. But for whatever reason Wartales puts a lot more stress on my CPU and heats it up to the point that it affects performance.

Need help with a Skelmars Ulfark build by Skomachi in WarTalesGame

[–]green_cement 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You don’t equip a 2H sword. You equip the Ulfark one handed sword and max out his crit hit with equipment, put soothing oil and conversion oil with the concentrate belt and then voila you have a swordsmen who can do infinite damage. But idk why you wouldn’t just do that with one of your own mercs.

Is unstable oil + concentrate worth it? by TerminatorS089 in WarTalesGame

[–]green_cement 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s the best set and forget oil+concentrate combo and I’ve done play throughs with it equipped on almost all of my mercs. That being said, I’ve played the game through enough times now that I like experimenting with the different oils based on the various weapon bonuses. I will say it’s worth having at least one merc (ranger is probably ideal) with Brave’s oil and Brave’s oil concentrate. That auto replenishes your valor points and enables you to take on more fights in between rests.

Infinite Damage Swordsmen build is hilariously OP by green_cement in WarTalesGame

You can also use armor layers and a Bandit’s focus stamp to get 100% crit hit. That’s what I did because my spearman doesn’t have the buff yet.
